I’m not sure that Sublinks will happen. It was breathlessly announced as if it was coming soon with the promise of regular updates. But here we are eleven months later with no updates at all.

To me it’s just seems like Lemmy and the Threadiverse are slowly evaporating.

Good question, I was thinking about this the other day. The reason being that development of several fediverse apps has seemingly stalled because the previously active developers have life issues. (I’m not moaning about it, just a straightforward account)

It seems to me that FOSS developers wouldn’t want their projects to be popular. Because that comes with pressure to constantly improve or expand and it takes up more time. So they start a Patreon or similar but that adds more pressure.

When projects are community developed then I see disagreements and personality clashes which increases stress for lead developers.

And that’s were moderation (the act of moderation) comes in as a first step rather than instant defederation.

I haven’t mentioned anything about Trans people at all ? There’s nothing to negotiate and I don’t disagree that trans people have a right to be treated with respect and have their rights respected.

I get what you’re saying. There’s a mindset in the fediverse that everyone on an instance is responsible for it. Even if the bad actors join later. The instance gets defederated but as a user it can be really hard to know if your instance is defederated.

It’s a deeply unpopular opinion and anyone who suggests that federation is simultaneously a huge advance and a big problem seems to get downvoted.

You’re right, ultimately instead of being exposed to a range of views some of which are challenging we’ll end up in little echo chambers.

We need more moderation and less defederation.
