Ooh thank you, his work is super nice! I was actually not familiar with him but looked him up and now I want to read his graphic novels! his line work is awesome, very atmospheric pieces as well.

I think you did a good job on the portrait. Maybe for the over all piece my advice would be to simplify the background. Keep the painterly trextures on her and try a color gradient tool, (if your software has it)so you don’t do the transitions yourself. This is more of a workflow suggestion, as you focus your efforts on the parts of the painting that carry the most importance.

Yess working traditionally one sorta lets go of some control over the piece… but, that’s what keeps the skills sharp, right? The struggle against the wayward hand, at least in my experience… I also appreciate your comment about sharing your work and being nicer to your art, that is such a hard thing for me, I’ll take it as I sign to actually post somwthing today :)

And to clarify, self promo is ok! My complaint is about the ones who wouldn’t even see this post (or any other post for the matter), much less reply to it. They just take up space and do not give anything of value back. Imo. As the fediverse grows it’s bound to happen, it just pisses me off.

Not inflammatory, but I’ve noticed some new users who come only to do self promotion, without engaging in anyting else in the platform. Mostly in art related comms but also a couple trying to promote a shady website or the like. Even though my account is new I’ve been browsing for a good while and dislike people that are only looking for an audience not a community.
