Someone legit talking about being a “casual linux user” brings, in the best of ways, a tear to my eye.

I will literally never verify my real life ID for some online service. I will cut out that service from my life before betraying my own privacy to such a degree. I will throw my computer out the window before ever doing this.
What the fuck is wrong with people?

Shirts That Go Hard@lemmy.world•Woman alarmed after being asked to leave Conservative town hall over T-shirt
2·20 days agoOkay, totally unrelated, but “Kristi Koons” and “Jeff Kibble” sound like wildly made up names and I love it.
I went nuts with it recently, burning jello windows on a 3d cube desktop environment… good times.
I promptly disabled it all, but it was fun for 10 minutes.

pics@lemmy.world•This is Jehan Pages, the top developer behind GIMP, a free open source photo editor. Adobe executives hate Jehan. Because of his hard work, Adobe lost millions of dollars
27·27 days agoSwitched to GIMP from Photoshop probably 15 years ago. Adobe didn’t lose any money, however, I’ve always pirated from those greedy fucks.
Even that has been massively simplified, no?

10·1 month agoI think it’s pretty common these days to have 240v outlets in the kitchen for exactly this reason, no? Same for electric clothes dryers in laundry rooms.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Windows 10 refugees flock to Linux in what devs call their "biggest launch ever"
5·4 months agoHonestly, if you go that route I’d probably recommend using an LLM only for information and asking questions, but run commands yourself and actually read it’s responses. If you don’t understanding something, ask for elaboration. Otherwise, you risk too much automation, letting it set up configurations you don’t have actual understanding of and making a spaghettified mess.

You know image AI inpainting exists right? I mean, you’re probably correct, but you could absolutely take a real protester and just…change the text on their sign. Hell, you don’t even need AI to use photoshop.
Also, hands don’t mean shit anymore. AI has mastered hands and legible text.

Somehow, I just managed to get 20 year old Mac software running on my linux setup the other day, something impossible even on a modern Mac setup no doubt.
