I live in a small CA mountain town that was “the only town open” during COVID, and as such, Airbnb went apeshit. Well the market got oversaturated and now with people trying to offload these properties or rent them out to long term residents , and shocker, rents are coming down (along with home prices). We still have yoyos trying to get $4k/mo for a 2/1 piece of shit because I’m guessing they’re upside down on their mortgage, but those properties have been sitting on the market for at least 6mos. I have zero empathy for the people that bought high and losing their asses because they wanted to make it rich at the expense of our local population.

I don’t know, the way things are going I see upstart manufacturers having enormous trouble with things like mobile carrier frequency licensing/access, as well as institutions blocking access (ie banking)

We desperately need a third option for phones. Apple is Apple, Google has more or less become Microsoft. We need a Linux variant for phones.

Perhaps it may not be a bad idea to dual boot Arch and SteamOS or BazziteOS until you get the hang of Arch. While Arch is a very flexible system, accidents happen, and it’d be a shame to lose game progress due to system breakage.

And fyi, Konsole is simply a terminal application for your command line. Personally I don’t really mess with flatpaks, and I suggest getting familiar with pacman (Arch’s package manager) and the AUR.

I honestly believe that’s absolutely the direction we should start moving in. It’s just going to be a tough sell on divorcing people from there cars, and hopefully an “if you build it they will come” approach works out.

There has to be a way to incentivize tenants to forego cars for a project like this to succeed. I kind of understand the 1:1 ratio thing, because while I agree it’s ridiculous to cut housing units for parking spaces, the reality is that if there aren’t enough onsite parking sports for a given MDU, you’ll just have people clogging up city streets with overflow parking. Perhaps billing the building as carless or something and charging a premium for a parking spot to disincentivize car ownership?

You see this in major cities here in CA like LA or SF, where much housing was built and zoned before the surge in personal car ownership. Street parking is a nightmare, and neighborhoods are filled to the brim with people plopping their cars wherever they can. It has to be coordinated effort between residents and cities to help alleviate the situation. Even neighborhood vertical parking structures would help.
