Hi, American here. I just wanted to take this time to say sorry about…you know…everything.
Our country is not ok right now. We’re going through some shit. And I look at other countries and hope they don’t think that all of us support this nonsense.
It’s bad enough that I don’t even have to specify WHAT has gone wrong. I have to appologize for our current general existence.
I can’t even say this isn’t who we are either. Right now our biggest issues are racism, dumb fucks, and lack of empathy towards others.
…yeah, that just sounds like historically accurate America. We’ve always been this way. It’s just especially bad right now.
So to the rest of the world, sorry about our existence.
Apology not accepted. People in our countries are getting ideas, and starting to think mimicking US behaviour is an option. And it’s not good. Can you please get your shit together asap. Please start by putting the habius corpus stuff back in your constitution.
There is a great big statue in NY harbour that says Give us your tired, your poor wretched masses…” please ring back when you mean it.
Just like you can’t stop your country from following our lead, we can’t stop our country from being shit heads. We’re doing as much as we can.
We’re just all in shock that he’s still so fucking healthy. The dude is a drug addict that loves hamburgers. He has to wear diapers because he has messed up his plumbing so bad. He has water retention pooling at his ankles. How is he still even going to golf courses.
Just like you can’t stop your country from following our lead, we can’t stop our country from being shit heads.
Somehow it seems people outside the U.S. think we Americans have been just hanging out over here not pressing the big red “take the country back from the fascists” button that’s sitting right there.
The U.S. is not a democracy, people. Hasn’t been for a long time. If it ever was.
There’s no legal way to recall most politicians. That leaves the citizens with 2 options: wait till the next election and hope it happens and is respected and is actually a change in power enough to reign in the BS (which is difficult when half the voting population gets their news from a very limited source who constantly lies and the other half is engaged in ideological debates about compromise and whether people should even vote in a democracy); or use the 3rd box.
There quite literally is nothing the citizens can do for the next couple of years besides a revolution–and there’s an almost non-existent chance that succeeds without basically the entire country engaging in unified agreement.
The fed is disappearing people because of the color of their skin. Imagine what they would do if an armed group were to actually pose a threat. They routinely turn the sky to fire overseas and have bombed Americans for wanting to have weekends. With Trump in complete charge now (who’s already deployed the military domestically to “clean up” like 1 city block) there’s no reason the US won’t viscously attack her people again at the slightest provocation.
kind of feels like the rest of the world is begging and pleading for us to do the thing we said we do when our government is usurped by tyrants
Happeing in Australia as well. We had concentration camps for refugees long beofre anyone else, firing scientists, rentier class making all the $, honless.problems, ridiculous real.etsate prices, US bases that our politicians are not even allowed to on our soil
Shit balls like Rupert Murdoch cut his chops here, climate denial is rampant etc
You’re right. It’s all our faults. But primarily, we invented shitty politics and behaviors. We are totally NOT victims here. Also, what a helpful comment.
Too much Americanisation leaks over here and it disgusts me. Especially cancel culture and “us vs them” which is an absolute cancer and the epitome of American degeneracy.
“Give us cheap labour” is my interpretation of that quote.
The statue was supposed to represent, in part, the liberation of African Americans but that wasn’t allowed, so it had to be resigned to make the chains relatively hidden.
TLDR: That statue stands for very little IMO.
Nah it’s fine you’re giving us a chance to overtake you and an excuse to decouple ourselves from you. Thanks mate!
Please do everything in your power to establish your country independent from the US. We have no say in how our government functions, and they are hellbent on turning every other country into a vassal state.
If we get out of line, we are incarcerated into a system where we can then be used as slave labor (13th Constitutional Amendment) if we are not killed outright (police officers and qualified immunity). Even if we don’t do anything wrong, we can still be stopped and have our assets seized by the police (civil asset forfeiture).
Please, don’t come here, and don’t let us leave.
As someone that grew respecting the US but is now watching the dumpter fire it spiraled into, I can only say: don’t give up.
We know there are still people in there that do not support the madness and stupidity going on.
Get rid of it, clean out the gangrenous parts, and come back.
More than ever, we need all hands to take this world in the right direction.
I’d like to point out that an Austrailian helped get us to this point.
Everybody who’s not a fucking idiot already understands that there are chill as fuck israelis, russians, chinese, americans, etc, who hate their dogshit situation, and that lumping them in with the dumbfucks who are doing it to them is not something anybody cool or even slightly smart does.
If I can give one advice to Americans, and everyone honestly, it’s to make sure you show empathy to everyone, including the racists or mysoginists or transphobes. Don’t agree with them. Don’t encourage them. Don’t hesitate to stop them if they are immediately harming someone. But show some empathy. There usually is a reason they are the way they are.
While there isn’t one single reason why things got so bad, I strongly believe the trend of completely rejecting anything but perfect “political correctness” and ostracizing the people is what contributed significantly.
When people get ostracized for not being progressive enough on the left and the far right will welcome them with open arms, many people will come where they are welcome, making things much worse.
Yes, there are exceptions, no one should be empathizing with Trump or ICE agents or KKK members. But keep the exceptions rare.
German opposition in 1930s Germany: “Remember to show empathy. These nazis are the way they are for a reason, don’t ostracise them for political correctness reasons”.
Yes. The Nazis were mostly elected not by extreme racists, but by people concerned with the economy. Concerns that the other parties failed to empathize with and address. Sounds familiar?
You don’t have to agree with them to empathize. But if you ignore their concerns enirely, they will turn elsewhere.
I think there’s a good portion of Christians who voted for Trump simply because Kamala Harris told a guy that he was at the wrong rally for saying “Christ is King”. Someone from the USA told me they’d rather vote for someone pretending to be a Christian than someone who was disparaging one. Sometimes it is simple, surface level things like that.
Lotta angry people not recognizing how much correct shit is in this.
I think I became a slight bit more right wing because my “friends” ostracised me due to my religious beliefs years ago. Rip.
