I came up with a joke that I resisted making, but it had such perfect timing and setup … my partner was explaining to some friends how she is very allergic to cats and how it’s so bad she can’t even touch a cat. I later told her that I wanted to say, “and that makes our relationship very awkward” (for context, we are lesbians).

The friends were too new and I didn’t want to make such a crude joke until they were more comfortable and knew me better, but it did make me reflect on why I found it so hard to let it go and not make the joke - I do think making people laugh is almost desperately important to me; even if I’m no comedic genuis, part of my brain is always trying to find an angle for a joke, and it’s probably because I feel good when I make people laugh (besides the ways it relieves the social tension I’m so sensitive to).
