    That was great!

    The chambara/Kill Bill sequence was great, going where live movie making can’t.

    Why did Maki’s mom kill Naoya though?

    Making essentially fails at her task of procuring cursed weapons from her family’s vault, but where did they go, and who’s guarding them now that her clan is essentially destroyed?

      Why did Maki’s mom kill Naoya though?

      My understanding is that the clan’s big names - with Naoya at the helm - conspired to do a powergrab from Megumi. Their plan involved using Mai as a bait to lure Maki in (in addition to her original task of retrieving the cursed weapons).

      The mom seemed like an unwilling participant of the plan (maybe she did care for her daughters?), but went along with it, possibly for the greater good of the clan.

      But in the end, the clan was destroyed, her husband and one of her daughter ended up dead, her other daughter was broken, and she was (or at least appeared to be) fatally wounded.

      So that last act of hers was just her getting back at Naoya.
