How did society get in the equation? If they’re maximizing the wellbeing of their workers, how are non-workers (society) benefitting?

Fuck AI@lemmy.world•Majority of CEOs Alarmed as AI Delivers No Financial Returns
25·25 days agoIt’s sad how few of you have taken the time to research or attempt to start a business. Of any sort.
People aren’t evil for selling a service and registering it as a corporation which often requires a CFO and a CEO/President, even if the business has only a couple people. A lot of these businesses struggle financially just as much as any welfare recipient.
Do you think the only people who aren’t evil are the non-industrious? It comes across as pathetic parasitic envy.

Fuck AI@lemmy.world•X’s deepfake porn feature clearly violates app store guidelines. Why won’t Apple and Google pull it?
3·1 month agoI can see deepfake porn on Google’s own search engine app too. They’d sooner change their policy than remove their search engine.

8·1 month agoUS police forces kill far more people than the overall homicide rate in Europe
How are you calculating this? Doesn’t seem right.
2024 was the worst year with 1,365 police killings in the US. That’s around 4 people for every million. Per capita this is a rate 8x that of France which I believe has the most police killings in Europe.
General European homicide rates vary on countries from 5 (Swiss) to 42 (Latvian) per million. It’s higher than the rate of police killings in the US.
However, the general homicide rate in the US is like 6x the European rate.
I only briefly checked the numbers, I hope I didn’t get anything wrong.

pics@lemmy.world•January 6, 2021. The U.S. Congress is attacked by MAGA rioters trying to stop Joe Biden from becoming President
13·1 month agoThey’re pretty close. They wouldn’t care if Democrats rioted at the capitol at this very moment. Just like they didn’t care when Obama was mass deporting people, or when he pardoned someone who literally BOMBED the capitol building, or when he bombed foreign countries without Congressional approval, or when groups like Codepink storm Congressional meetings in the capitol, etc. No calls of Nazism, gestapo, treason, insurrection, impeachment, prison, or anything…
Jan 6th was bad because it wasn’t done in favor of their guy, who is much like the current guy.

Linux@programming.dev•Linux Distribution "NixOS" drama: Moderation Team resigns in protest over Interference of Leadership; Elected Leader works for US Military Company, fearing alignment with US fascistic development
52·5 months agoI’m guessing we should divide FOSS into political camps? We can’t code in open source projects with contributors that have political positions we oppose?
This seems to be the trend I’m seeing.

23·5 months agoTheir leaders align with the democratic plurality of the US?
WTF, I hate democracy now!

It’s ultimately about money though. If they believed ceding power/control to workers would get them more money, they’d do it. Workers are rarely invested in corporate success unless their pay is also tied to it. And even then, they’re not nearly as invested as the founders and initial investors.
