Way I see it, you’ve got your whole life ahead of you. When you get out of high school and either go to college or join the workforce or learn a trade (I did both; went to college, got a degree in biochemistry and now I do unionized construction [as part of a trade; I operate heavy equipment] for way more money), your entire life opens up. You can do whatever you want with that time, and live your life on your terms.
That said, there’s gonna be times ahead that you may be stuck in one town or place. That’ll be a good time to familiarize yourself with the area and see what’s happening socially. Not just bars or gyms, but clubs, group activities, etc.
Urban exploration was always fun when I was your age, but just be careful. Especially if the abandoned building you and your friends are interested in is military. Never know what they forgot, or who’s still watching the place.
Anyway, hang in there, it gets better.
Edit: Also when I say “clubs,” I don’t mean the dance floor. Hobby clubs.

Supervisor was being a prick last night during our shift, but I’m on 4-10s so I have the weekend now. And I’m unionized, so really whenever the mood strikes me, I can tell said supervisor to blow me. I’ll still have a job. Thing is, the guy’s like a parasite: if you let him get under your skin, he wins. So I bite my tongue and do my thing, fuck 'em.
Aside from that? Might finish Baldur’s Gate 3 this weekend, but I’ve got errands to run and cleaning to do. Maybe some shopping. All in all, not a bad week. I leave the bullshit at work and live my life.

My laptop can crush anything their anti-consumer company can push out. People drool over MacBooks and they’re fucking laughable.

Open Source@lemmy.ml•It's time to take advantage of Reddit's decline41·2 years agoThat’s why instances need to defederate and block lemmygrad and hexbear, to discourage that behavior.
This is neither here nor there, but the only thing I hate with a burning passion more than right wingers is the tankie filth that pervades those instances.

Chat@beehaw.org•(USA) Is It Rude To Ask To Bag Your Own Groceries?English1·2 years agoI mean, I’m in New Jersey. We don’t get plastic bags anymore, and most places don’t offer paper bags, so it’s kind of mandatory to bring your own bags or buy reusable bags from the store. But you are definitely bagging your own shit.
Edit: I used to cashier and bag when I was in high school anyway, so I’m still fast with it.

Chat@beehaw.org•What does everyone think of bots on Beehaw?English9·2 years agoWhile I understand the use cases of bots that provide some sort of utility or post helpful information, I lean towards having no bots. Reddit was festering with bots of all stripes - mostly memes - and it was kind of unbearable.
I personally long for a community that features strictly human-to-human conversation and interaction.
I’m aware that this opinion will likely be in the minority, given how tech-centric the fediverse in general is, but that’s my thought on the matter.
Aside from working overnight, I’m putting together furniture in my new apartment, looking for more decor, figuring out how to lay everything out… just chipping away until everything is the way I want it. Got some things to fix/replace as well.
Love that game. My buddy won’t play it though because it stresses him out too much.
Reading has just been old BattleTech novels, and I’m playing The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky series right now. About to clear the second game.
If you’re unfamiliar, TLoH is a JRPG series created by Falcom. While I’d say the gameplay is decent (it’s got the old school turn-based JRPG thing going on, along with a turn order system), the storytelling and worldbuilding is where the series shines.
It’s early on in the week, but not bad at all. Finishing the moving process in my apartment and just working overnights out on the highway, which is pretty chill. Aside from that, cleaning, gaming, reading, the usual.
Using animals for food is not inherently shameful; humans have done this for thousands of years. The difference is, humans used to respect the animals as more than just a food source and utilize as much of a killed animal as possible. The problem nowadays is the sheer excess. Corporate-owned farms are disgusting and the conditions are utterly cruel all in the name of profit and supplying demand.
Over the decades, my mother has fostered approximately 20 or so cats born in the neighborhood outside to strays. She will either bring them to the AWA or a no-kill shelter for adoption, find them a home personally, or adopt them into the household. To this day, all the cats my parents have owned were brought in from the wild and socialized.
Ignorant owners are solely the cause of decades of time and money invested in that endeavor. Their house is near a major state route and there are a shit ton of drop-offs. And the worst part is, nobody else in the neighborhood gives a fuck. It has been only through the efforts of my mother that the cat population has been kept in control in the neighborhood where I grew up.
That actually sounds like an awesome idea.
Right, I don’t know how this is up for debate. It’s seriously for the cat’s own good, and in the best interest of the local ecosystem.
Eh, not bad I guess. I’m laid off for a few days (can’t pave in the rain) so I’ll have to collect a week of unemployment, but on the other hand it gives me time to get some things done around the apartment and see some friends that live nearby.
Other than that, trying to play Armored Core VI without getting frustrated with the difficulty, and eagerly awaiting Starfield’s early release on Labor Day weekend.
