I wonder what that looks like fleshed out a little, though. Is that a mandatory or voluntary payment? And by paying for what they use is that per message or per month like a subscription?

Exactly.
But do we trust entities that depend on our governments for funding? It could be argued that they’re fundamentally compromised.
Upvoted bc VC eventually means enshittifiication. But with xz getting back-doored recently, what is the middle ground that keeps these things sustainable financially and operationally?
The problem I see is that if they get too idealistic/absolutist, they will end up just like those examples you mentioned (Brave, TorBrowser, Librewolf); less successful.
Ah, that’s significant, although not surprising. They’re a national embarrassment.
Would I be able to switch seamlessly to another SIM/number in that case, do you think?
Here are some absolutely minimal notes / instructions that I refer to myself. https://nuacht.flounder.online/gemlog/2022-07-12-samba.gmi
Beyond that I recommend searching based on your OS or distribution as the commands may differ ever so slightly on the installation.
Thanks. I’m happy to hear that.
I’m using Organic Maps. Is that open source? I know that they don’t collect any data.
The Microsoft one does concern me. The Google features are optional to the user, but not the MS ones.
Funny. MS used to ridicule Google for being an “advertising company”. Probably said in jealousy since they’re no different now.
When it comes to the environment they have no competition. I’m still with them.
With DuckDuckGo we get zero trees planted. It’s outside the EU too so although they have a relationship with US companies I hope that there are some protections around data transfer.
I have Foliate on Linux too, it’s great.
lately I just open them on my phone and have the screen reader read it to me. I don’t have to turn pages and it works with the screen locked too.
iOS lockdown mode, mentioned at the end of the article seems fairly comprehensive. But I would want to review those steps (in their link) a few times before deciding whether or not to commit.
I set up SAMBA so that I don’t have to keep a copy of the content on my computer. I also don’t need an application. But, setting up the SAMBA server requires a few terminal commands and editing a text file.
As mentioned in another comment, the link takes us to the parent page where you can choose a brand (and presumably then, a model) of car to learn about.
I noticed that Mazda isn’t included among their brands so I sent a suggestion, thank you! I didn’t know that they provided privacy support for so many devices - they even have the Nintendo Switch in there and all kinds of categories: https://foundation.mozilla.org/en/privacynotincluded/
He used the house that a woman was murdered in to record an album and was glorifying the murder by keeping artefacts and naming the house “Le Pig”, in the spirit of something her murderer also wrote about the victim.
He had been claiming not to have known about it and to have been horrified to learn the truth, but given the name that he gave the house and the fact that he took the infamous door with him when he left (where her blood was used by her killer to write the word “Pig”) it’s very hard to believe him.
Very distressing for her family, which is the part that bothers me most.
He is a total creep however, which has marred my enjoyment of any music connected to him.
Threema.ch already do this. Maybe that’s the answer?
