Got sniped by a Reddit bot and had my almost 100k karma account banned, new home here for now until I go back. I’m a man of MANY interests NSFW and SFW alike. Scrolling down my profile you might be thinking “Wow…Interesting profile” in either a sarcastic tone or serious, but hey god forbid a man has hobbies.

  • I do agree and you are right that it depends on the community for example r/politics which is a really large subreddit that attracts all different kinds of users has to be way more strict than let’s say a niche small community, but what I also didn’t mention that receiving a permanent ban out of nowhere is harsh especially because a bot said so, to me a permanent ban should be enforced for the absolute worst of the worst situations, like harassment, doxxing and illegal porn.

But yeah my point is that if you are going to be that strict at least be fair and have actual admins checking your appeals and if they still say no, then all good.

  • Depends on what you classify as AI anymore

I work with Video Editing software and you could argue that a lot of features on softwares like Davinci, Capcut, Premiere all use different helpful tools that could or could not be AI, Artificial Intelligence existed long before companies slapped the term into every product. Nowadays even TVs have “AI” processors which is just a fancy way of saying just a CPU.

I do believe it still should be an Open source tool that we can use for good, for example helping fighting against cancer but knowing we live in such a planet it will be used for worse rather than good and it depends on who trains it and for what purpose because we train AI.

I do care about Art like Movies, Books and the Movie industry so far seems to be the only one who fights against AI being used as lazy work, there are possibly Video Games that use AI text to speech for NPCs or something but there are a lot of directors who speak passionatelly against it which is good to see.

At the end of the day it’s a tool and it will depend on how we use it. We can use it to do good things, but also drive more people out of jobs and helping with endless wars, I have a feeling the latter will be true but we’ll see.

  • I think toxic podcasts have a big influence on young men, especially those who grew up without strong father figures. My own dad wasn’t perfect (I joke a bit about it on my profile), and many of us went through that risky “2015 phase” of consuming unhealthy online content.

What many politicians and advocates on the left often overlook is that toxic masculinity isn’t solved by telling men to be “less masculine.” You can actually counter unhealthy masculinity with healthy masculinity. Instead of shaming men, we should be teaching a better version of manhood one that includes therapy, emotional intelligence, and being able to talk honestly about what’s going on inside.

As corny as it sounds there’s a reason when there’s a bad take by a misinformed feminist calling all men evil on twitter ganders a response like “This is why men turn right” and sure while that stuff doesn’t work on me anymore, It’s not 2015-2016 there’s still some vulnerable people that unfortunately fall for it, does that mean though that the feminist is wrong in her views? Not really, but I’m not talking about myself I’m talking about a lot of men that do fall for it.

Most working-class men who grind through 9–5 jobs, going from shift to shift, are worried about affordability and stability. If someone comes along and says “I’m going to make your life easier,” that’s who they’ll vote for even if it’s Trump. You can call them naïve or say the leopards ate their face or whatever , but the reality is that many of these men are desperate for change. And they’ll keep voting for whoever promises that change. When society pushes these men aside or dismisses them, some end up looking for someone to blame. That’s when you get people saying, “Women are the reason my life is hard,” or “Jews control everything.”

Of course, some people are genuinely racist or sexist, and there will always be trolls who just want attention. But why do those trolls exist in the first place? Often it’s because they feel insignificant, and attaching themselves to extreme movements gives them a sense of identity and purpose they don’t have otherwise.

  • There’s always going to be people sick of Reddit’s rules as myself but you are right, let’s say Half Life 3 gets announced tomorrow out of the blue, first place I would go is Reddit to see the reactions, I think Lemmy competing on that department doesn’t make sense but I feel like Reddit needs some competition, I heard that the co-founder was building a Reddit competitor though I have no idea how that went.

This site already does something better than reddit, I love how I can just write comments thread after thread making posts without having to worry if it gets removed somehow. I love just the simplicity of posting here.

  • I’m of the opinion that as large as this community gets (or any community) it’s bound to have many characters.

I guess I don’t mind that much because I think A) You won’t ever have a large site where everyone 100% agrees with you all the way, unless you are on a specific political community and even then I’ve seen many infights and civil wars over small issues.

    B) I’ve dealt with many of them in worse sites (Yes even 4chan) that I don’t mind them anymore, as long as they contribute in their own communities and don’t cause harm for the website then they can chirp on their communities as much as they want, I was the kind of guy that enjoyed Political Compass memes on reddit even though it got ruined by Right-Wingers now, I was on that subreddit long before though and as soon as literal Nazis joined the subreddit got worse.

    C) We should absolutely have rules to ban people that post innapropriate, illegal stuff but I feel like this website should be easier than Reddit on the moderating stuff, I’m 100% on banning Nazis and fascists if they make the site worse for everyone else, though I happened to have some interesting conversations with some Conservatives. Reddit on a whole has an awful moderating system that ironically enough doesn’t ever get checked by human beings and I don’t want to see the same here, I’ve heard people that got banned because they had the mental health crisis bot even though they didn’t do anything, I’ve heard people got banned for similar ways that I did for posting a meme lol.

Take of this what you will.
