Prok@lemmy.worldto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Do people really think setting up domestic manufacturing in the USA is easy?5·5 months agoThis is exactly the thing I can seem to get anyone to agree with me on … Imported goods will never become significantly more expensive than American for the reason you just said…
There’s a lot of money in figuring out the right margin below the imported product such that they’ll lose some sales but ultimately profit more because of the increased profit margins. Not that you were seriously saying it would be a dollar cheaper but most I talk with tend to think that difference is much bigger than I expect which tends toward single digit percentage differences
Just trying to figure out how to work those blinds to let more sun in
Yeah I don’t plan on switching unless I feel like I need to… Knowing what made others give up just helps me from wasting time fighting through something that might be a common issue…
I picked Nobara for it to be no-hassle, which it’s done a great job of for me so far
Thanks for taking the time!
If you have a moment to indulge a random person…
What made you feel the need to switch off of Nobara? I’ve been using it and it’s been fine, but I’d love to know some things to keep an eye out for
Maybe they’re just curious to hear what games are keeping people from switching? To see if it’d be something that would impact them too?
Are you insecure about the games you play so much that you want to keep it a secret?

Prok@lemmy.worldto 3DPrinting@lemmy.world•Recommendations for teenager's first printer.English3·7 months agoI had great luck with Anycubic as my first printer… If you want to have a larger variety of materials available I recommend a printer with an enclosure (depending on the age of your kid, it’s a bit safer too?)
I will try I haven’t used them recently but a friend of mine uses a Kobra 4 which produces prints very close in quality to my X1Carbon (I know…). That one has no enclosure, but the Kobra 3 is still available for even less if you really just want to see if the hobby takes hold. They have a Kobra S1 which seems like a decent option but I haven’t done any research.
My personal advice would be to not skimp too much on cost… Trying to stick with my older hardware nearly killed the hobby for me since everyone around me was printing higher quality it a quarter of the time…
Prok@lemmy.worldto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Will the price of Freeze Driers go down? (USA question)12·9 months agoFreeze dryers are much less useful day-to-day so the market is much smaller which won’t really drive much of a scaling up of production like happened for microwaves I imagine
The GUI app centers on most distros are quite usable without command line wizardry and reduces the risk of dodgey download sites

I for one do all of my backing up on Playstation 1 memory cards… I had to buy a couple storage containers to store them all, but I guess that technically counts as off-site
Prok@lemmy.worldto Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com•How long should I expect a NAS to last?English19·2 years agoMy Synology NAS was running for 6+ years before I replaced it last year. And the only reason I replaced it was to upgrade the hardware to be able to act more like a home server running some more demanding services.
I’ve since given the NAS away to a friend who is still running it… As always back up your data just in case, but I wouldn’t expect the hardware to crap out on you too soon
Touch is just fine, and assuming you have multitouch there are good options for gesture controls
Not to scare you away, but I have experience getting Linux to run on a Surface Laptop 2 and… It’s not exactly the easiest process…
For my machine it required a custom kernel to get the touchpad and keyboard working and it just always had one quirk or another.
Highly recommend Linux, but those surface devices need some specialized drivers…
I’m a colemak typer and I switched my phone to it to help when I was learning and it actually works really well since it emphasizes alternating hands it makes thumb typing pretty fluid. It does also tend to have some finger rolls which really just feels like tapping as you move your fingers back to the middle of the keyboard.
Not to say there aren’t better, I was just surprised how well it worked
