Formula 1@lemmy.world•Rwanda bidding to host a Formula 1 grand prix, says President Paul Kagame - BBC Sport
24·11 months agoAre we going to play a juvenile down vote game?
IMO, you are spot on. Monaco was long enough for the old cars, but when they became quicker and lap times got nearer to sub-minute it’s clear the track is too small. But,there is no way to make it longer. They were going man make a land mass in Monaco, but I don’t know the status.

Formula 1@lemmy.world•Rwanda bidding to host a Formula 1 grand prix, says President Paul Kagame - BBC Sport
41·11 months agoAnd who says the same can’t be true of Rwanda?
Would you fly thousands of miles to do business in Rwanda and enjoy a F1 weekend?
Further, does Rwanda have a fan base that will buy F1 tickets year after year to keep the stands full? Because, South Africa didn’t.
In the end, it’s all about prestige for these countries who have to foot the bill. Is Rwanda better served spending all that money on something else like it’s people?

23·11 months agoDuring the F1 weekend in Monaco, there is a lot of business going on, and it’s because the rich want to be there. It’s where the money is. The same can not be said for Rwanda

34·11 months agoMonaco is the reason most venues want F1 in the first place. That’s why Monaco’s race is free for the organizers. In that newer cars have overcome the track in performance is another issue.

8·11 months agoI must be dreaming, but in Monaco didn’t Gasly collide with Ocon at the entrance of the tunnel? Didn’t it put Ocon out, but Gasly was able to continue? There was no damage from that hit?

32·1 year agoIt just worked out for him. Something like this usually happens during monsoon races. If it makes you feel better, he was able to stay out on ragged tires due to excellent car control. Of course, so did Ocon.

Formula 1@lemmy.world•Hamilton gave his thoughts on the controversy surrounding Red Bull's bib "trick"
3·1 year agoYou should think of it this way. Why engineer something that can that can be adjusted from inside the cockpit, if you don’t intend to adjust it there.

Formula 1@lemmy.world•Hamilton gave his thoughts on the controversy surrounding Red Bull's bib "trick"
2·1 year agoI have seen so many changes that I just accept them, but the days of qualifying engines were dramatic. Of course, there was a different way of qualifying at the time too. The whole idea of building an engine that would only last a short period of time was kinda cool. But, also very expensive.
In this case, your first Para is correct. Parc ferme is broken. But the problem is that with new materials being developed all the time, I can’t help but thinking that the FIA is chasing their tails.

Formula 1@lemmy.world•Hamilton gave his thoughts on the controversy surrounding Red Bull's bib "trick"
71·1 year agoSome innovations just aren’t good ideas (like using rocket fuel). Some are outlawed because they’ll cause a money war at the time (like active suspensions). Still others are outlawed due to the FIAs notion that it ruins the sport (like movable aerodynamic devices).
Clearly, Hamilton seems to think that this falls outside those categories.
