I know I’m lucky – I’m in a senior position in my career, so it’s likely I’ll find something new for the same or similar salary.

Still, it was completely unprovoked. I had nothing but glowing performance reviews, nothing like an HR writeup or anything.

I guess I have prospects. Still, it’s a hell of a kick in the teeth, I’ve never been involuntarily terminated from a job in my entire life.

Inkscape and LibreOffice Draw do all that, but they’re not bitmap editors.

No really, it was like 1989 and I had to learn Unix systems for classes, and this white haired Emacs advocate convinced me to try it.

Who said “FOSS computer”? The FOSS that saved the night was ffmpeg. That he also ran it on a Linux system is a nice little FOSS bonus, but it’s not the headline.

Next time, suggest they have a rehearsal with a full tech shakedown

My wife and I used to keep guinea pigs and gerbils, and I had a hedgehog for awhile, over a span of about 15 years. The last guinea pig passed in the mid-2000s.

It was worth it, but as I near retirement, I wouldn’t do it again. I’ve had that experience, and I treasure it, but I don’t need to do it again.

Google Drive eliminated its full sync default a long time ago. Ironically, I have the opposite complaint – I’d like some folders to be synchronized ALL the time, and some NEVER, and Google Drive no longer gives you any direct control over what gets synchronized. It’s all controlled by some implacable internal algorithm with no exposed preferences.

Why not buy another plug? You can get USB cables at the dollar store. Make sure to check continuity on the damaged connector, and the new cable & connector, so you can match up the pins.

Dumb question, but have you explored recumbent bikes, trikes, electric bikes, motorcycles?

If you enjoy the great outdoors, and the bicycle was a mechanism to get out there, there are many options for continued enjoyment.

I’m a novice mechanic and I never had any issue with click torque wrenches.

Admittedly, I have a science degree and I have a great deal of experience with measurement equipment, vernier scales, etc. But I don’t think the setting on a click wrench is very challenging, even for a novice. Just watch a couple YT videos.
