That’s the problem with the fediverse in general. It’s a lovely concept, but it’s hard to sell people on something that has 10% (if we’re being generous) of the content they’re used to.

Sadly, it doesn’t always seem to exist.

I’ve been remarkably content with the Steam Deck desktop experience, so I’m leaning more and more towards Linux.

The limitations keep those users from breaking things and provide a decent out-of-the-box experience for the user. The very same limitations feel, well, limiting to users like you.

Squirrel@thelemmy.clubto Technology@lemmy.ml•Facebook accused of not showing insurance ads to women and older people in violation of civil rights lawsEnglish61·2 years agoSo, is it actual discrimination, or is it just that their data Facebook has shows that other ads are better suited to them, statistically, in terms of profit? I’m sure all sorts of patterns show up in the quantity of data they have, and algorithms show ads based on these patterns. It’s possible that gender is a factor, but it seems just as likely that there are other patterns (perhaps some common to a given gender) that factor into this result.
Edit: To be clear, I did not read the article, because I don’t actually care that much. I just find statistics and patterns interesting. Having worked in insurance in the past, I was always curious about which exact information factored into premiums, and in what way. I know everything from marital status, to job, education, location, age, credit score, and much more, factored into decisions, and not always in ways you may expect – all based on statistics.
Because I never particularly liked the alternatives.

Squirrel@thelemmy.clubto Linux@lemmy.ml•[Rant] I swear to fucking god. Windows is harder to use than Linux. Have any of you ever USED Windows lately? Holy fuck.61·2 years agoI’m sorry, but if Windows was that hard for you to install, you did something majorly wrong. I haven’t installed 11 on anything, but 7 and 10 were both cakewalks that practically hold your hand all the way through. It’s the last step when building a PC – after the actual work is finished.
If you have little experience with Windows, you may just be suffering from its “easiness.” It lets you do less in order to protect the less knowledgeable user. From personal experience in similar matters, I can attest to how frustrating that can be. You don’t want Windows to do it for you, you just want to do it! So you try to find a way to do things your way, bash your head against a wall, get frustrated, and ultimately take much longer to do anything.

Four of the best parking spots, too, judging by the handicap spaces nearby.
This is what many Steam Deck users seem to pursue.
