It’s not as uncommon as you’d think. People are relying on their parents more than ever, and parents who are willing to help are using this as an opportunity to provide help with strings attached.

VinnyDaCat@lemmy.worldto Curated Tumblr@sh.itjust.works•Certain hobbies set off warning bellsEnglish154·6 months agoYeah I’m not here for this. I just felt this massive wave of fatigue wash over me as I read it.
Like it or not you’re going to run into weirdos in just about every hobby. All preemptively judging people does is teach people to keep to themselves. We’re already building up a society of loners where people struggle to connect to each other with various other causes(loss of third places for example). We don’t really need something like this pushing people further apart, especially when that ultimately drives peoples empathy for each other down too.
My grandmother on my mother’s side beat my grandfather with a cast iron skillet while he was sleeping in retaliation for him beating her earlier. Apparently he learned from it and it never happened again.
After being a few months away from being married and seeing it all fall apart I’ve realized that I don’t ever want to be married.
Doesn’t mean I don’t want a long term relationship but I don’t want to tie the knot and tangle up my life like that ever again. If we had gotten married then divorced my ex would have ruined me. I was too soft at that time and I would have let her use me as a doormat on the way out. I know better now but I still don’t want to deal with those complications.
VinnyDaCat@lemmy.worldto Fediverse@lemmy.world•Lemmy devs are considering making all votes public - have your sayEnglish4·1 year agoThere are merits for it and against it. My biggest concerns would be privacy regarding data scrapers .
Regarding poor behavior, I really think that ultimately comes down to moderation on the platform. I’ve only had a few poor experiences but I am also someone who sometimes sees certain threads as dumpster fires and refrains from joining in or refrains from responding when I feel there isn’t any form of discussion or chatter to be had. I can understand that it likely happens more often than not but I also believe that moderation is the only reasonable way of curbing it. Moderation teams have to make it clear that the behavior is not welcome and that it will be dealt with.
VinnyDaCat@lemmy.worldto linuxmemes@lemmy.world•Apparently, Catholic dating is all about money5·1 year agoSomeone leaked their discord and there were a lot of instances of them discussing grooming as an avenue to creating their “perfect high value male” or whatever they called it.
VinnyDaCat@lemmy.worldto linuxmemes@lemmy.world•Apparently, Catholic dating is all about money6·1 year agoWould’ve thought FDS had been shut down by now after the grooming scandal.
Sure, if they’re abandoned.
The issue is that we have so, so many stray cats. So, so many cats left in shelters. We do not need people to breed more cats just so people can have their very expensive and very specifically bred designer furbaby. We need people to take care of the ones that already exist and are already struggling.
If only more people adopted in general instead of spending money on designer pets.
Same when I’m getting some Tums. They think it sounds like greenies.
Can relate. All my cats think my pill bottles are the same as the treat shaker. I always end up giving them a treat afterwards because I feel bad.
VinnyDaCat@lemmy.worldto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Is this normal for girls or just a extreme edge case? (Serious question)43·1 year agoIt’s a shitposting meme. The poster has this pinned on their twitter:
That said… I have heard horror stories about poor theater staff finding cucumbers after the 50 shades premiere. Some of it was just people memeing and trying to prank but I’m not entirely sure about all of it.

YouTube is great in general. I remember as a teen going into college thinking that the changes were going to kill it but really the platform has a lot of great content for everything. Everything except gaming anyways, which is a bit ironic.
Tutorials, cooking videos, engineering and math videos, historical discussions and theory.
I can ask mine to speak and he’ll respond. Unfortunately if he’s in a mood and I ask him to be quiet he often won’t listen.
