  • Are you kidding? What I wouldn’t give to be my company’s customer support.

“Hi-… Wait, hang on. There’s a specific thingyyy… we… are… sup-poooooooost-AHAH. Here it is, okay. [In sarcastic fancy voice] How can I help you? Lol, I should have been like “Welcome to Costco, I love you” right? hilarious. Idiocracy. And we are living it now. Sad. So… How can I help you?”

Oh wow, that’s quite the conundrum. Hey, you should get assistance. Hah, jk. Gotcha. No this is an easy one. I mean, you’ve definitely got a PEBKAC issue but no worries. Let’s start by-

Hey, you and me both. In fact most of the people I work with prefer to work with someone else, hah. But hey, wysiwyg, right? So, let’s go. Before we start though, just FYI, it’s pronounced comfortable.

Uh, actually, no you didn’t. You said “I’m not comf-TER-a-ble with you helping me.” What you should have said was “I’m not com-FORT-a-ble with you helping me - com FORT a ble. See?

Fair enough, but it’s not my fault you skipped the first day of pronunciation school. Baby’s first grammar lesson amiright? Hello?”

    Hello?

Whoa, that was under a minute! Mark it on the board. Mark it zero! Donny. Remember that? Oh wait, no, it was Walter! Because he would always say, shut the FUCK up, Donny. That’s why I got them mixed up. I always do that with Big Lebowski. Walter. Calmer than you are hah. Good movie. Oh shit, was I supposed to answer that?

  • I don’t think that comparison is as unequivocal as you seem to think. Sure, I bet it’s more likely than not that the average person has any of those attachments, but some people don’t. Maybe their job is a dead end, their family is abusive or toxic, their money is a sunk cost, their studies are related to a futile program, and they just need someone to put a bug in their head.

I was abused, manipulated, homeless, with 30k stuck in a scam and not a penny to my name, trying to get into triangle tech. I had every reason to stay. But my closest friend told me to run the fuck away and never look back - I had never considered it. Best advice I ever got and it saved my life. And triangle tech was just another scam.

    You never know ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • Ugh, I’m so burned out on trying freecad, getting nowhere, nothing is straightforward or intuitive, watching hours of tutorials doing nothing you want to do with it, spending hours trying to figure it out, best attempt ever was not much more than a few basic shapes…

Fuck autodesk all day, every day, but here’s fusion:

    • create parameters with the giant fucking f(x) button
    • create sketch with parameters by selecting literally any sketch function
    • extrude from sketch and modify body and faces
    • rinse and motherfucking repeat

Until freecad can claim to at the very least offer an equally simple workflow, no thanks. I’d rather use blender.

  • You still haven’t answered my question

And I’m not going to. It has nothing to do with the point that I was making. It has nothing to do with the quip that I started with. I came neither here nor to you to get advice. I made a sarcastic comment that you literally just confirmed. Thank you.

And the consolidation and gatekeeping of resources to the few seems just a tad antithetical to the entire foundation of decentralization.

    From join-lemmy.org:

    self hostable, easy to deploy

“people” are telling me that this isn’t easy, but Lemmy seems to think it is. Good luck arguing your way out of that paper bag.

  • Look, I hear what you’re saying. And no offense intended, but people like you crow about things like fediverse not being supported… All the while, these applications are not supported by their own developers. And unfortunately, not unlike the majority of my experiences with Linux issues, every time I reach out for help I’m told the same old hat story, “this isn’t meant for beginners”.

And the “pains that come with learning about self-hosting” are so unnecessary and in my opinion quite apparently avoidable.

"Well, did you change the port number to this number that isn’t referenced anywhere in the documentation? It’s pretty obvious to anyone that’s been doing this for 20 years - who would be able to recognize that it’s a step everyone would need to do to deploy - so there’s literally no conceivable reason why that would be included…

    ###IN THE TUTORIAL

…Maybe you shouldn’t be doing this."

  • Well, as someone who has been trying to launch a functioning Lemmy instance for nearly a year now, I can tell you, knowing not the slightest thing about funkwhale, that I would eat my hat if the documentation isn’t an all but absent shit show.

My favorite part was learning that my domain was creating a completely new cert from lets encrypt with each deployment and no way of recovering them at all. So after 5 attempts, you have to wait 60 days (or whatever) for them to expire. That was awesome. I messaged the devs about that one and they literally said “we didn’t think of that”… 😑

And so much shit goes tits up if you don’t deploy it perfectly the very first time. Don’t get me wrong, I love the fediverse, but JTFC I hate the fucking fediverse.
