What it comes down to there is whether the act of selection is an act of art. If there is no skill other than picking, I’m not sure I’d consider it an artistic act. (For similar reasons I’m very much on the fence about a lot of modern art.)

arquebus_x@kbin.socialto Chat@beehaw.org•askBeehaw: should copyright even exist at all? and if it should, how long *should* the ideal term of copyright be?1·2 years agoIt’s very difficult, since it’s hard to assign copyright to things like TV and film without using a corporation.
arquebus_x@kbin.socialto Chat@beehaw.org•askBeehaw: should copyright even exist at all? and if it should, how long *should* the ideal term of copyright be?2·2 years agoDeath of the creator, or in the case of a multi-creator work or a corporation (as in the case of TV and film), death of the last living participant in creation. (In the latter case, corporations would try to assign “creator” status to the youngest baby they can get their hands on in the hopes of making the copyright last 70+ years, but there would have to be adjudication to determine actual involvment.)
