Upgrading to a new phone would give me longer battery life that I’m getting now, but my phone for the first few years would comfortably get me well into a second day, where as I feel like the pixel 10 would last a day, but how long would it last after a few years? When these phones cost £800+ (my phone cost £500) it’s difficult to justify buying them.

I think if it had a slightly bigger battery and fast charging then I’d likely pull the trigger on the 10, but it feels like a downgrade from my 6 year old phone that I’m running now.
Honestly no idea what phone I can upgrade to, I’ve been putting it off for a couple of years now.

I’m looking to replace my 6T but I’m so underwhelmed by the choices out there. The Pixel 10 is at the top of my list but I’m not at all excited by it from what we know of it so far.

It would drive me absolutely nuts. There’s been times where it’s run out mid-workout or during a long walk. Meanwhile my Garmin Forerunner can go 2 weeks on a single charge.

blackn1ght@feddit.ukto Fediverse@lemmy.world•I totally missed the point when PeerTube got so goodEnglish10·1 month agoTrue, but in order to make it a healthy viable alternative to centralised platforms then there needs to be a financial incentive for creators to use peertube. I guess any creators who give a shit about this kind of thing could upload their content to both platforms, but doing so could have an impact on their YouTube earnings.
Early youtube was beautiful precisely because it was normal people making videos as a hobby, not trying to earn money.
It was also a novelty as it as very new, but the quality of content being put out now is significantly higher than it was in 2005.

I think the only other option is the pixel 9, but not sure about battery life and slower charging.
Is this the Finnish equivalent to a cockerel crowing in the morning?
blackn1ght@feddit.ukto Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•This is pants on head stupid English4·2 months agoI’m not convinced. There’s probably a chunk of people who don’t drive because they kept showing that they weren’t safe enough to drive by failing their test. If the aim is to reduce the barrier to entry for driving because tests are expensive (they’re £62 in the UK, really not that expensive) then those costs will only be countered by way higher insurance premiums as there will be more drivers who can just jump in a car and drive on their own and crash. Also as a driver and pedestrian, I really don’t want to be on the same road as those people.
blackn1ght@feddit.ukto Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•This is pants on head stupid English7·2 months agoso the driving test proves nothing
The driving test proves you can competently drive to a safe standard. I agree that you learn more through experience, but first you need to be able to drive to a particular standard before being allowed to drive on your own.
What’s the alternative if there’s no test? You just allow anyone who reaches the driving age to get in a car and drive on their own?
blackn1ght@feddit.ukto Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL road fatalities per 100,000 people vary widely between major US States, Australian States and Canadian ProvincesEnglish3·2 months agoIn the UK in 2023, it was about 2.5 per 100,00 people.
I’m not a mod of the feddit.uk equivalent so it’s not up to me, but I’d be cautious about doing so. I have lemmy.ml blocked so I can’t see their posts or comments, but I’m a bit wary about their users, it would be like redirecting a unitedkingdom community from hexbear or grad.
Yeah we can reach out to the mods there and see if they’d want to redirect to us.

blackn1ght@feddit.ukto Fediverse@lemmy.world•lemm.ee is shutting down at the end of this monthEnglish42·3 months agoWhat will happen to the remaining donated funds once everything has been settled (assuming there’s funds left over)?
I’ve no idea, it’s not something I’ve tinkered with since my Nexus 4. I’ll be honest, I just can’t be bothered with flashing custom ROMs to my phone these days, I haven’t got the time nor the energy. Cheers for the suggestion though :)
I’ve had my phone for over 6 years so I think I’ve probably done more than most on that front, and I’d love my next phone to last just as long which is why I’m skeptical about the battery on the Pixel 10. Seeing comments from people saying they’re upgrading from their Pixel 7 because the battery life isn’t great is a big red flag, that phone isn’t old.
If there were a 6.0" variant of the OnePlus 13 then I think I’d probably choose that.
