When I told my coworker about Islay, she got very excited to use that fact to help support her arguments with her right wing family or whoever she argues with about this sorta thing. Thankfully all my friends and family are left wing, most are far left, so I don’t ever have those sorts of arguments in my life, but I was more than happy to help her situation.
The cod was believed to be the king of the fish. I hope to live up to the name 🐟

Oh definitely, I will. She’s worth the much higher price.
Agreed. I love her coat, she’s such a model.
I’m not too sure! That’s a good question though. I’m curious now, I’ll have to ask the vet the next time I see her.
More often than not, cats with both parts tend to develop cancer as a result of it, apparently. That’s according to the vet anyway. But yeah I think they tend to be sterile in most cases.
Good to know, thanks. That’s just what the vet called her, I wasn’t aware there were bad connotations with the term.
Both parts. Islay has both testicles and a uterus. We call her a she (since our other cat is a boy so it’s just easier if one is he and one is she), but technically she’s a they. Unfortunately it’ll be very expensive to get her fixed because of it.
Thanks for making the post. It’s nice to air out the emotions sometimes.
A bit all over the place lately. I found out I’m having a kid, which is very exciting, and pretty much the thing giving me motivation at work right now. I work in a kitchen and generally like what I do, but upper management is awful and it’s only going to get worse. We got a new big wig recently, so now a bunch of changes are being made to make us more “efficient”.
I’m considering a career change, but I’m planning to take full parental leave (8 weeks for fathers where I am) when the baby comes in the fall, and plan on also taking my vacation during that time (either right before or right after), so I want to wait until that’s all done first. I’ll probably look for a new job in the new year. Some days it’s hard to wait out that long though, today was rough. If every day is like today I don’t know how I’ll make it through the rest of the year. I expect a mass quitting soon if that’s the case.

cod@lemmy.worldto cats@lemmy.world•What is your cat's name, and what stupid nicknames do you call them?4·6 months agoI’ve got two. A void and (I think) a blue point.
The void is Apollo, but his nickname is “what is that in your mouth”
The blue point is Islay, but her nickname is “how the fuck did you get the toilet paper again”
cod@lemmy.worldto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What is a community you like and would recommend to others and why?1·8 months ago+1 for patient gamers too. It’s a great community with great discussion. I don’t think I’ve had a single bad interaction on there
I know a dog named Willow. Nothing more fun than to go to their house and excitedly say “Hello Willow!” over and over again. It’s so much fun to say
cod@lemmy.worldto Privacy@lemmy.ml•How To Turn Off Google’s “Privacy Sandbox” Ad Tracking—and Why You Should8·2 years agoI like this line of thinking and hope we get more of it. Feels like a lot of people on this community are of the mindset that you have to either go all the way with online privacy or not at all. Going all in isn’t practical for the average individual and can scare people off. It’s just not worth it for a lot of people in their minds. Most people probably like the idea of privacy but aren’t willing to change phones and operating systems, use a completely different set of services, all that. I think we should focus on trying to help someone with what they’ve got rather than telling them they have to completely change the way they operate online. Give a list of settings to tweak, suggest an ad blocker, suggest alternative services but don’t make it sound mandatory, and don’t berate someone for using an iPhone or watching YouTube for example. Acting like that will probably scare people away and make them not want to interact with the community which would be a shame. It would also probably lead to them continuing to do mad online habits because they left before they could get educated. I think it’s about balance. Being slightly less anonymous online might be worth it if it means a considerably smoother experience, for the average person

I would’ve thought it would be the limited features of the free version that people didn’t like. Maybe I haven’t used it enough to deal with syncing issues yet?
cod@lemmy.worldOPto Privacy@lemmy.ml•What’s the best note-taking app currently out there?1·2 years agoThat’s a good point actually, I never thought about that. I might do Joplin with Dropbox in that case
cod@lemmy.worldOPto Privacy@lemmy.ml•What’s the best note-taking app currently out there?2·2 years agoI just started using Joplin and I’m quite liking it so far. Opening the task manager on my pc and I can definitely see it likes to use up memory, but hopefully that won’t be much of an issue. It takes a few moments to synchronize but that’s alright. It has more features than the free version of Standard Notes, but SN feels a bit smoother if that makes sense. Still not sure which I prefer quite yet but we’ll see
cod@lemmy.worldOPto Privacy@lemmy.ml•What’s the best note-taking app currently out there?2·2 years agoFair enough. I’m fairly new to caring about my online privacy so I’m still learning. Browser was more of just a preference since I don’t like having an app for everything I use, but if that’s the better way to go for something like this then that’s fine. I like the idea of everything stored locally, but at the same time I like the convenience of having access on my pc and phone. And as I said I don’t store anything secure in notes. If I did need something secure in notes I could use Bitwarden for that I suppose. I appreciate your reply, it’s how folks like me learn. Thank you for your time writing it out
cod@lemmy.worldOPto Privacy@lemmy.ml•What’s the best note-taking app currently out there?3·2 years agoJust checked it out, seems solid. I’m going to use a few for a bit and see which I like best, but that one seems to be a pretty good choice. Thanks for the recommendation
I love her large ears. Reminds me of a fox.
Islay was named after the scotch, so you were right about the island in Scotland! When she was a little younger, the grey in her coat was far lighter in colour and looked like a smoky colour, so I figured since Islay is usually a smoky scotch (and my personal preference for any hard liquor outside of Canada), the name seemed fitting. We would’ve called her Peaty if she went by he instead, for the same reason.
I hadn’t put two and two together with my username here, that’s hilarious.
