Most kids aren’t discerning about those kinds of things.
dom@lemmy.cato Free and Open Source Software@beehaw.org•I want to push my city council to use libre office11·3 months agoYou should take into consideration the additional load this would generate on IT, both short and long term.
The transition would be relatively costly. As would all the support tickets that go in for users asking “how do you do x. In word, I used to be able to click here and here and now it’s not there”
The other area i would be concerned about it excel. Many organizations rely heavily on excel and moving to another type might make calculations, pivot tables, etc, break. You’d need to do a feature analysis across a variety of use cases and roles. (And I’m pretty sure the finance team would poison your coffee for even suggesting moving off excel)
Nah, in my head he’s a chinese dragon.

The people on this sub assume everyone who buys products do a ton of research on the companies making those products instead of just watching a couple reviews.
Most people are not as informed as those that appear in a dedicated 3d printing sub.
I can’t speak to the Linux piece, but for that price point ender 3 pro is hard to beat. Or the Bambu mini but im unsure if you need to use their software or if you can use any slicer. I’d imagine any slicer to be honest

He’s noticed an issue that people who are into tech always push complicated things onto non techies. I don’t see how that is contradictory or weird…
I think he’s talking in general. But who knows.
The whole point is that a bunch of people don’t have the technical skills to figure out FOSS. Sure, sometimes the ux is just as good as the main competitor, but in my experience, usually it isnt and has a decent learning curve

dom@lemmy.cato Technology@lemmy.ml•young voters say social media to blame for divisions in the u.s7·2 years agoPart of the problem is a lot of people are indirectly supporting it by being single issue voters and “putting up with” the stuff they don’t like in order to support the one cause they care about.
