I know Google is bad and all, but in the case of Fennec, is it really that big of a deal? I say that because someone who knows how to get Fennec on their phones will also be aware on what search engine they use, so it’s not like the maintainer is advertising Google or anything IMO

merci3@lemmy.worldOPto Linux@lemmy.ml•Just wanted to show off the lowest end hardware I ever ran Linux on1·2 months agoI got the icons and themes directly from a Mint install on another machine (cause I couldnt find these online) 😁
merci3@lemmy.worldOPto Linux@lemmy.ml•Just wanted to show off the lowest end hardware I ever ran Linux on1·2 months agoNot sure, but this one is a 2007 piece of art
merci3@lemmy.worldOPto Linux@lemmy.ml•Just wanted to show off the lowest end hardware I ever ran Linux on4·2 months agoActually… You’re right about the 21st century lmao. I just wanted an excuse to quote Metal Gear Solid
Also, the issue is not ram itself, of course, 2GB is enough for lots of fun on Linux, it’s the CPU that’s killing me
merci3@lemmy.worldOPto Linux@lemmy.ml•Just wanted to show off the lowest end hardware I ever ran Linux on1·2 months agoYeah, that’s what I’m researching right now… I hope I can at least make it useable enough for web browsing
merci3@lemmy.worldOPto Linux@lemmy.ml•Just wanted to show off the lowest end hardware I ever ran Linux on3·2 months agoThis one is actually obscenely underpowered but obscenely large laptop
merci3@lemmy.worldOPto Linux@lemmy.ml•Just wanted to show off the lowest end hardware I ever ran Linux on2·2 months agoI didnt have the intention to compete, was just proud of seeing this 2007 laptop running a modern OS again!
merci3@lemmy.worldOPto Linux@lemmy.ml•Just wanted to show off the lowest end hardware I ever ran Linux on2·2 months agoI also daily drive LMDE on a… Considerably old inspiron, but not even close to being as old as the one in my post tho 😄
merci3@lemmy.worldOPto Linux@lemmy.ml•Just wanted to show off the lowest end hardware I ever ran Linux on1·2 months agoYes, the title say lowest I ever ran That was the lowest for me, I really don’t get the confusion. And even then, a celeron m 380 was lower end even for it’s own time
merci3@lemmy.worldOPto Linux@lemmy.ml•Just wanted to show off the lowest end hardware I ever ran Linux on31·2 months agoBut why would a 1.6 ghz, single core CPU not be low end in 2025? Perfomance itself is very sluggish, and it has only been able to do very simple offline tasks for now. Yeah, yeah, many people used to run 512mb ram and 500mhz cpu setups… But that was in 2000 and whatever.

merci3@lemmy.worldOPto Linux@lemmy.ml•Just wanted to show off the lowest end hardware I ever ran Linux on172·2 months agoHaha, I’ve been used to 4gb ram minimum for most of my life 😆
merci3@lemmy.worldOPto Linux@lemmy.ml•Just wanted to show off the lowest end hardware I ever ran Linux on1·2 months agoI’ll keep these in mind, hope debian still got 32 bit version of these packages.
merci3@lemmy.worldOPto Linux@lemmy.ml•Just wanted to show off the lowest end hardware I ever ran Linux on4·2 months agoIkr? Makes me wonder what that celeron was meant for? It barely ran the Win 7 that came preinstalled. That’s why I’m so happy to see it run modern Debian with modern packages. Also why I’m doing some research on CPUs to upgrade it to
merci3@lemmy.worldOPto Linux@lemmy.ml•Just wanted to show off the lowest end hardware I ever ran Linux on1·2 months agoIt ain’t high enough to do playback on VLC tho :p but can do some nice fun with it

It’s a fair take, but even still, someone who goes out of their way to get to fdroid and install Fennec should very well be aware of alternatives to Google.
An argument that discards knowledge as a factor only makes sense to me in a context of a tech illiterate installing Firefox directly from the Play Store.
Also, from my own knowledge (correct me if I’m wrong) the point of Fennec is to be as FOSS as possible, and not to have all the provacy-oriented defaults, if that were the case, I presume it would come with uBlock preinstalled, for example.
It’s also worth mentioning that Fennec never changes what defaults you set with updates (at least in my personal experience, would like to hear if anyone had a different story) EDIT my own default settings was changed to Google later that day. So can’t argue on that 😂
