My parents still have cable. The buttons are backlit, they turn on when you pick it up and turn off when you set it down. There’s also a mic button you can hold down and talk to input text by voice instead of typing on a virtual keyboard with a dpad. Not rechargeable but two AAs last for a year so why bother with a battery that eventually fails and renders the remote useless?

To many, federation is a solution to a problem that doesn’t really exist for them. In their mind, the early model of federation is like email, a problem that was “solved” years ago by having one corporate product that was much better than others (Gmail).

To add, on top of that, the fediverse is like if gmail could just randomly decide to stop receiving emails from outlook addresses and there’s nothing any user can do about it except make another email for when they want to email outlook users.

I started on beehaw and moved here because they got too defederation-happy. I don’t want to post on an antisocial network, if I want to be alone with my thoughts I won’t go online at all. Reddit will ban you for literally anything if it gets dogpiled hard enough with reports.

They use machine learning to detect ban evasion. It takes into account email/phone used to sign up, IP, device fingerprinting, and behaviour on the site.

Reddit is probably too big to completely disappear but if they keep isolating themselves from the rest of the internet they could easily lose mainstream appeal and end up more like a SomethingAwful

Can you tolerate handling raw meat? Butchers are usually happy to give you scraps (or sell for very cheap) that you could make your own stock with. Can tune the flavour to your liking with whatever herbs and vegetables you want.

I pissed off a power mod and got banned from a handful of subreddits and accidentally posted on one of them with an alt. Both accounts permabanned for ban evasion - even though one of those subreddits was one I only ever posted on with one account. Alts get nuked as soon as I make a single post anywhere, too.
