Hm. I was thinking of the problem in terms of “what is”, and not so much “what it looks like”. SG-1 is a good example, where the argument is that there is no actual magic. Its “sufficiently advanced = looks like magic” not “… = magic”.
I interpreted the question to consider actual existence of magic. So, I suppose it hinges on how “magic” is actually defined. Where I thought it would be some kind of forces / energy that is manipulated by will or tools. Hm… I suppose this is a lot more nuanced.
Isn’t it always different things? “Magic” being a different set of rules for how the world works. Technology being the things that can be achieved given the rules. And, whether advanced technology is influenced and how, depend on those rules, lore and culture.
If for example magic is only available to some people with the ability or what not. Technology will always be available regardless.
I go to office when I don’t have to be productive. The factor is round 10x. As ridiculous as it sounds, one single good day at home equals about two weeks of normal days at the office
Not to mention that you know that exact typeface and pixel perfect location where letters can be, so it should be relatively easy to go through each possible subsequent character and match the pixelated value.
Certain types of advertising is illegal where I’m from. In particular: political adverts of any kind, and ads that target children.
I got the lifetime pass 5 years ago. I’ve switched to JF because of the disappointment so far about a year ago.
JF is exactly what I wanted and needed plex to be, and everything added since is a worsened product. The lifetime pass was an attempt at getting the peace of mind of “then you just have it”. If anything, only FOSS can give that.

The government may not criminally punish immigrants based on speech that would be protected if said by a citizen.[83] On entry across borders, the government may bar non-citizens from the United States based on their speech, even if that speech would have been protected if said by a citizen.[84] Speech rules as to deportation, on the other hand, are unclear.[85] Lower courts are divided on the question, while the leading cases on the subject are from the Red Scare.

Regarding the protections against illegal searches, I think all bets are off, even for US citizens.
That’s what I’m trying to do understand as well. What’s the explanation for these kinds of things? What’s the actual sequence of events and how conditions that lead to these things? Why would the board approve of this kind of compensation?
I don’t see what the big deal is. This is just a Roman roof shape.
These articles just stink corporate interests. “You’d have to pay 20% more than a competitor, if the difference is requiring not working from home.” rings a lot different than “please master, don’t make me go back, I’ll work for 20% less and be happy, it’s a win-win, right?”
Let’s see how competitive the company is when you are off by at least 20% and the ones who work from home at the competing firms are more productive at it too.
What does “based” mean to you?
I had mixed feelings about the whole Ondsel thing. And, please correct me if I’m wrong.
Most of the significant features in 1.0, that supposedly came from Ondsel, are things that I’ve been using for perhaps 3 years now, with a fairly well known branch of FreeCAD called Linkstage3 by a user that goes by RealThunder.
I don’t know how much he was involved in Ondsel, or the merging of those features into FreeCAD, but it sure looked like a whole lot of great work wasn’t credited to mind boggling amount of work by one person.
I still use the Linkstage3 branch, because it has a lot more features still, than what was present in the 1.0 pre-release i tried some months ago. Maybe things have changed since then.
“Install Linux”, is usually a hurdle for most people. We should be willing to help with that part.
There is a different side to this equation too. Locally sourcing production. There is no surplus stock that needs to be thrown unopened. No shipping of some part that solves some particular problem. Replacement parts can be made for things that would otherwise be cheaper to buy new and dump the old one, etc.
It’s not the same thing? Emulation of older consoles improve and mod the experience. Upscaling, custom textured, etc
Never thought about that angle. I don’t think I’ve dealt with this kind of manipulative behaviour myself, but I don’t doubt it.
It’s such a dangerous game to play, as the “requirements” don’t match reality. At least someone along that chain of communication doesn’t know something they should know about their job. The alternative of just being a negotiation tactic would make me consider ending the interview immediately.
Requiring 8 years of any particular tech is ridiculous in of itself. If you haven’t learned what there is to learn in 3 years, you won’t learn any more in the subsequent 5.
On a global scale, corporations could double wages, reduce hours to 80%, and it would still only match the productivity output. Only compromise would be for very few people to be slightly less obscenely wealthy.
Keep this up, and more people will wonder if a few heads rolling is all that bad.
Likely language barrier thing here. I thought first that I had never once tried “brisket”, and I’m 40 y/o. I look up what it is, and it’s a cut of meat, rather than a recipe. So the person here then heard “make a dish out of brisket, with a sauce made with gravy”, or?
