Tanks and fighter jets are becoming less relevant. The war in Ukraine underlines how drones are changing everything. They’re cheaper to manufacture (or buy/retrofit) and just about everybody can make or reverse-engineer them.
The barrier to entry is so low in fact that I worry about the day when terrorist groups begin to deploy them in major cities.

I wonder the same thing about pro sportsmen…
Windows bloat sucks. I wish Microsoft gave you the option to just install the components/features you’re likely to use. That way you could have an agile, minimal custom installation like you do in Arch.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Like many others, I’ve been looking into internet browsers lately. This guy has put together a pretty extensive comparison: pctips.com/best-browsers
1·8 months agoGood article. I use Brave on desktop and android. I like that the adblocking is baked in. I still have to add my favourite addons but that’s the beauty of personalization.
Quick question: is the Tor browsing functionality in Brave adequate or should I just stick to the official Tor browser in that regard?

On a related note: does anybody think that Nostr will ever gain real traction? Promising project, I try it again every other month but it’s still pretty rough…
Also: the fact that Dorsey has funded it and is a fan concerns me.

Open Source@lemmy.ml•Is there a FOSS In Case of Emergency (ICE) app?
6·1 year agoMost phones allow you to make emergency calls from from the lockscreen. I wouldn’t bother with an app if my xiaomi phone allowed me to have text info on the lockscreen. Not just medical info but also "if found pls contact - "

3·1 year agoI used to do this but I’d prefer to have medical aid details, blood type and contacts accessible from lock screen.

3·1 year agoI love options but does anybody else wish devs would put their heads together and focus on improving ONE app rather than launch a millon similar forks?
Betterbird is good, not really minimalist but worth a try…
Really liking Vivaldi so far. The baked in adblocking and encrypted syncing is neat. Everybody also always recommends Brave as “good out of the box” where you can use it straight away without any tinkering…
Cancelling and/or doxxing everybody even slightly opposed to the party line will become commonplace.
Speaking your mind out in the open requires bravery I sadly do not possess…

Privacy@lemmy.ml•The official chat room for a privacy community is discord?
7·2 years agoRevolt is supposed to be a privacy-focused alternative to Discord. Haven’t used it myself. Is it promising? Will it ever gain traction?

tnx for the reply, I suspected as much.
