The call to action button is the free plan, with subscribe having a secondary button style. That alone makes it clear they want to show you ads more than they want you to subscribe.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Matrix vs. XMPP, Security, Privacy, Apps, Efficiency ?
4·2 years agoI’m also still interested in the xmpp vs matrix debate. I’m using matrix ATM because it seems more actively developed and used, but I know some people still swear by xmpp. Ultimately I really just want a decentralized alternative to discord, but beyond that I feel like I’ll just want to go to whichever alternative has the most users, since that’s pretty useful for chatting software.
I’ve heard feedback that matrix doesn’t seem to be very united, with different groups implementing different competing features proposals etc., which does seem to be a pretty big issue.
I’m also pretty optimistic about a lot of the new stuff being built on matrix. I recently became aware of Commune, which is about making sections of matrix servers web searchable, and that sounds incredible - one of my biggest issues with discord is how often it gets used as effectively game wikis, collecting all these guides and information that’s only accessible through a proprietary discord account. No anonymous search.

Lemmy@lemmy.ml•time for POSSE: post once, share everywhereEnglish
2·2 years agoI’m not sure why you would need accounts on all those different platforms. Isn’t the whole point of posse that you just post it once and then anyone, regardless of platform, can see it? That’s what already happens (with the caveat that some, like lemmy, won’t show you certain types of posts, like notes).
And people following you on one platform but not another sounds like more of a desire for multiple identities, each one a fragment of your actual identity. That’s another concept, that stuff like socialhub try to implement.

Lemmy@lemmy.ml•time for POSSE: post once, share everywhereEnglish
3·2 years agoI’m not sure I understand how this isn’t already possible. Create an account on some federated platform, such as your own self hosted one, and people from any federated platform can now follow you. Isn’t that already POSSE?

Free and Open Source Software@beehaw.org•using discord is morally lazy
10·2 years agoI’d really really love for matrix to take off and to effectively replace discord, with continued development so things like stickers are supported in more clients, and to let servers be leaner.
However, if the friends and communities I want to talk to are all on discord, it’s hard to pioneer the alternative chat.
I’ll keep my matrix account and use it when I can, but discord will have to be on all my devices for the foreseeable future

Free and Open Source Software@beehaw.org•Recommendations for FOSS shopping list/checklist apps?English
2·2 years agoThat looks pretty cool, although it doesn’t appear to be FOSS. If I could use an app like that and self host the server or use next cloud to sync it that would be very cool. I noticed in their FAQ they’re going to stop supporting nest and Google home voice commands, so if it were foss and you could integrate the server with home assistant that would’ve been super cool.

Chat@beehaw.org•Tildes, Beehaw and the nature of safe spacesEnglish
8·2 years agoMentioning meta discussions about the community reminded me of this leftist video about how facism can infiltrate and convert communities. Amongst other techniques, facists can portray those who call out any negative problems developing within the community as enemies of the community. The whole series is very enlightening and has changed how I choose communities to participate in, and how to run any I’m part of the moderation team of.
Edit: and just to be clear, I’m here on beehaw because I believe in y’all’s moderation philosophy, and trust it will continue to be a safe space for everyone
I started therapy recently and after my session yesterday I felt really similar to how I’ve felt in the past after unloading a lot of my emotions in a giant cry session. I think that means I’ve unbottled those emotions in a healthier way this time, which is exciting!
Work is still stressful though, but I’ll keep getting by.

I think they mean in the sense that it’s not a native desktop app (or mobile)
