I’ve found the opposite to be the case unfortunately. Plex “just works” while my jellyfin server had almost constant issues with subtitles (two of my frequent users need these because of hearing problems) and would frequently crash requiring docker restarts.

I adopted jellyfin very early, used it for many (maybe 6?) years and these problems only got worse over time.

I always prefer open source (often to a fault) but I am glad I switched to Plex a few months ago. I got the lifetime pass for cheap for black Friday. I still leave jellyfin running for a few users, but everyone else has already switched over.

I buy multiplayer games on steam since that’s where my friends are. I pirate almost everything else unless I want to support the developer (typically small indie games or high quality stuff like FromSoft). If I buy a game, I do prefer GOG but steam can be convenient, especially on Linux.

There are huge archives of flash animations and you can install a safe “emulator” for playing flash that even runs in your browser. Look up Ruffle. I can’t remember the name of the big archive site I used, but it didn’t take much googling. I know I was able to find Homestar, Larry Carlson, Adam Phillips (bitey), joe cartoon and salad fingers as well as a ton of games from back in the day.

Airsonic Advanced and DSUB on Android are pretty good options since DSUB has advanced local caching options.

I aquire my music then run it through Picard for tagging which places it into my NAS where it is mounted to airsonic and jellyfin containers for consumption.

The jellyfin apps have gotten a lot better and I find myself using feishin and finamp more often lately.

You absolutely could try. It would be fine until the already established hierarchies feel you’re becoming a threat to their monopoly of power. Then they will come up with some reason to go out and shoot you or lock you up.

But I do think most of the people who say shit like they want to live in a wilderness commune would last two weeks before giving up and going back to running water, paved roads and grocery stores.

I would not recommend swapping out major components without doing a new install. Linux installation is quite simple these days, so back up your configs and put them in place in the new installation.

If you run things in containers, these kinds of issues are not as relevant. You can run jellyfin in docker the same on any host and pass the GPU through for xcoding.

Nextcloud can be self hosted very cheaply, or you can find some hosted instances. There are applications that can encrypt cloud storage for some services. I would recommend just getting a NAS or a VPS and running nextcloud on it.

Oh wow I did not know they had web versions! That is awesome! I might get a linux phone now and give this a shot.

The things keeping me from fully migrating to Linux on mobile are apps like Uber/lyft. They don’t have a web ui version, but I actually use them often. Also google maps navigation doesnt have any realistic alternative in my experience.
