I’d be happy to send help. What does she need?
Curious Canid
I am owned by several dogs and cats. I have been playing non-computer roleplaying games for almost five decades. I am interested in all kinds of gadgets, particularly multitools, knives, flashlights, and pens.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•[ANSWERED] Should i use KeePass* instead of Proton Pass, for privacy?English
3·1 month agoIt will always be safer to store sensitive information in a system that you control than in a system that someone else controls. KeePass is easy to setup, it’s easy to use, and it provides excellent protection.
That much cuteness certainly deserves treats.
It was a basin. It is now a cat bed.
That is an amazingly boopable nose.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Socialism is the actual teaching of JesusEnglish
2·2 months agoI also think the evidence that Jesus existed is compelling, but my point is that it doesn’t matter when you’re talking about the philosophy that is credited to him. Reading the Gospels makes it quite clear that a disturbingly large part of modern Christianity is in opposition to everything he stood for.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Socialism is the actual teaching of JesusEnglish
342·2 months agoYou are absolutely right. It isn’t complicated. A fundamental principle from the teachings of Jesus is that everyone should share their “wealth” (i.e. food, housing, medical care, etc.) with those in need. No one should ever be hungry, homeless, or sick without treatment. It follows naturally from the idea of loving everyone, without exception.
I’m not going to argue the questions about whether Jesus was divine or even existed. I am simply talking about the philosophy that is presented as his by the Gospels. That is the core of Christianity, but it is ignored by a majority of those who call themselves Christians. The fact that it is difficult and calls for personal sacrifices is not an excuse. He never said that it would be easy.
I accept that Christian principles can be viewed as aspirational goals and not an absolute code of conduct, but that is not what we see in the would-be Christians. They have no interest in working toward those goals.

3·3 months agoVoice recognition with keyword commands works quite well and reliably. AI-based voice assistants are often not even “better than nothing”. In the time it gets me to argue the AI into doing what I want, I could park my car and write a better non-AI menuing system, to say nothing of using one.

D&D and other table roleplaying games have always been a great forum for developing social skills and comfort with other people. They provide a structure that encourages people to interact. They also take the focus off the interaction itself by providing common goals that make the interactions a means to an end. Even minimal or awkward interactions are rewarded, leading to improvement.
I can’t think of any other form of entertainment that provides similar benefits.
I am so glad someone thought to post this.

1·5 months agoI have added the swipe library to FUTO. It works, but not well enough for me. (That may be my clumsy swiping, but the issue remains.) I estimate that it gets about one word in four wrong. GBoard is still wrong about one time in ten, but at that rate, swiping and correcting is still much faster for me than traditional typing.

I came here for this!
And “No step on snek!” is still ours.
