I feel your pain. Our parent company has set a ridiculous goal of replacing 50% of processes with AI. As a developer I know that our processes are mainly based on automation. Systems that do automatic data processing without any human interference. AI can’t make this process any more efficient than it already is. And yet these clowns demand we change it to involve AI. The fun part is that they appointed me of all people to oversee this AI transformation for our unit. Fun times ahead and my only hope is early retirement.

I personally try to reverse smartphone usage. Got myself a dumbphone and try to use a computer for everything else. The reasoning behind this is, I want it to be a conscious decision to do internet things at a defined physical place, instead of mindlessly using the smartphone everywhere. This should encourage me to reconnect to the world around me.

I’m still in a transition phase though.

Games worked for me on Kubuntu, but a lot of other things were seriously broken. Compositor/Desktop effects did not work at all, weird screen artifacts, Taskbar crashes, Discord lags terribly and has display problems. I don’t know, if that is going to be the new Desktop experience, we’re gonna have a problem.

In addition to what others have said, ESP32 is often used by hobbyists, like a more powerful Arduino. These devices are extremely versatile and cheap. I have several of these in my home automation and this is very bad news :(

I think the most important part to understand with lemmy is that the choice of server doesn’t matter that much because you can read and post on all the other servers as well. Unless you choose hexbear or whatever it is called these days. :)

But it really is a problem when people can’t be bothered to choose from more than exactly one. I mean if you can make a selection from several different brands of toilet paper in a supermarket then why is it so hard to choose a server?

As a (Plasma based) Kubuntu user I was wondering as well. Looks like they tried to emulate the gnome look and feel in the picture. In Kubuntu the default taskbar is at the bottom and the floating application bar doesn’t exist

The hurdle is that Europe tends to adopt things that are successful in the US, because it is convenient. Even most services and startups based in Europe are more or less copies of US products, with some notable exceptions of highly specialised applications. This unfortunate trend started in the 1970s, when the largest industrial players in Europe thought semiconductors were just a fad and consequently lost their competitive edge. It was seen as less risky to invest in commercially proven concepts than to actually innovate. This continues to bite us in the ass to this day.

My personal take: An incident like this illustrates how vulnerable we are to being censored and silenced when using social media and communication channels owned by billionaires. If you need some context, Musk is actively trying to influence German elections by advertising for the far right party afd. While doing something similar in the UK with the right wing Reform party, and calling for a neo nazi to be released from prison.

So there’s that. It doesn’t even matter if this was a nazi salute or not, because it was clear that he is a fascist before this incident.
