The fact that they’re still doing this means people are falling for it, and I feel sorry for those people, cause this scam is clearly designed to prey on those who feel lonely and are too naive to know better
Working in a field were I have to perform a lot of these types of tests, you’d be surprised how many look like Covid tests at a glance - always look at the labelling.
Also, in this form factor you’d pee into a container and pipette a very small amount into the test using the (usually) accompanying tiny pipette.
I’d do another test to be sure, but even a faint line can indicate a positive result (similar to Covid tests of the same form factor)
On one hand, its nice that they actually responded, because even that can’t be taken for granted nowadays.
On the other hand, they spent more text on telling you they’re holding onto your data (and trying to milk you for more) than they did telling you the thing the email was about!!
I’d say I’m tech conservative/cynic with a bit of normie - as I’ve long accepted that forgoing big tech completely means losing the ability to talk to most of my friends and relatives (because there’s zilch chance of me convincing them to move away)

I’m aware of where I am, as I said before I have no problem with piracy - my main point was that just because we’re fine with it, doesn’t just magically make it legal - which is what you were implying.
And no, I didn’t intend to be rude if you’re inferring that but it’s blatantly clear what this forum is for and them being employed by someone who purports to protect their privacy selling such a service but then feigning ignorance

From my PoV, @PotatoesFall@discuss.tchncs.de wasn’t feigning ignorance, the question was a retort to a non-sequitur. One’s view on the validity of laws (i.e. only being illegal cause Disney said so) doesn’t change them - I’ve seen enough “Sov Cits” find that out the hard way to not make that stupid mistake.

Not the same guy, and I don’t mind piracy at all, but being embraced by a community doesn’t make something not illegal.
That’s very much decided by the law of the land you live in, and in most lands it’s classed as a form of theft or copyright infringement, which is illegal.

It’s a weakness in the sense that there are times this place turns into a straight-up echo chamber…
But when there is actual debate going on, it tends to be a lot more civil than on other sites (most of the time)
I hate to side with big tech, but they’re not wrong… DNS poisoning is ineffective when pirate sites can just change domains, and users can just change DNS provider or use a VPN. It’s a cat and mouse race that’ll be ultimately impossible to win

The only thing I disagree with here is Win8 being apparently better than Win10.
Win8 was really damn annoying to use without a touchscreen, and while Win8.1 did help, Win10 was by far the better implementation of PC Metro IMO.
Having said that, Win11 is exactly where it needs to be. It’s all of Win10’s worst traits cranked up to 11 with a heaping of it’s own bullshit and spyware on top

Bloodletting is actually still used to treat some diseases - for example it is the primary way to treat Haemochromatosis. Until recently, in the UK at least, people with this condition couldn’t donate blood, so it was just thrown away like back then too - though more recently they started allowing donations to help treat hospitalised anaemia.

But I think you’re taking what you’ve got for granted. It sounds like your family is fairly liberal and well-meaning, but that doesn’t mean her’s is.
Even in the west, religious conservatism can get nasty real quick (especially for woman), so I can absolutely see why she might be scared to tell her family.
She probably doesn’t like hiding you in the shadows any more than you do - you should be careful putting your feelings over her well-being.
