I’ve been trying to learn for years, apparently I failed to have what it takes to learn
actually@lemmy.worldto Fediverse@lemmy.world•From September to October Peertube’s MAU grew exponentially from 21.7k to 33.4kEnglish2·11 months agoMy gut reaction about lack of content in peer tube is because the platform is ethical. It’s my understanding that popular video platforms started by pirating content, marketing campaigns and other shady things . This obviously is a not a good thing here.
This creates a cascading effect where only people who are more ethical ( rather than less ethical) post videos there. And only ethical ( more or less) people watch the videos there for more or less political reasons ( not national politics but belief how things should happen)
There are probably ways for them to jumpstart content there , but are dismissed, never to be used because it’s against the spirit of the idea. Hopefully someone can solve this by doing something that fits into the vision !

I am now entirely federated online except for Pixelfed!English5·11 months agoIt always amazed me that Reddit stopped adding new stuff to make it easier ; instead the only changes in years was all the stuff making commotions and scandals.
It’s like they purposefully exist in a frozen tech made years ago and innovation is not something helpful to their business model.
The enshitification and out of touch culture came from a deeply entrenched mindset in the Reddit offices years ago

For example I am an expert on two things most people find obscure; and for all my comments I just avoid talking about them. It’s too hard to wrap up an idea without lots of background information, there are no short posts or comments I can make about it.
Almost all the highly upvoted stuff are short. Were I to try to make an expert post it would be totally ignored. So why bother for me when I can snarky about things I know nothing about ? More fun !
I think experts who write short terse pithy comments that hit the mark, at a timely fashion, are rarer than hens teeth

And who am I to comment on such things…. But disregarding all that, I think there will be no serious kernel development there this decade, just maintaining older systems properly. Sorry I made joke earlier

But my example is solid. Many great people in Russia though, not disrespecting that but only the system instead .
Life imitated art and I expect the western counties to catch up later

actually@lemmy.worldto Linux@programming.dev•Russia Mulls Forking Linux in Response to Developer Exclusions103·11 months agoLike many things in Russia, the appearance is more important than the truth. If there were anything substantial made, I’m sure there will one or more soy agencies helping to pad a developer’s savings.
actually@lemmy.worldto Work Reform@lemmy.world•I am my own legal department: the promise and peril of “just go independent”9·11 months agoSemi related for all the programmers, and makers of online services, and similar providers, doing stuff on their own: nobody is going to care about your obeying regulations , compliance and rules about your thing until it gets big enough.
Obviously avoid some things! But that list is very small. And for that there is the dark web which has its own rules.
But all the other stuff ( usually legit ordinary stuff) can be safely ignored until that site or service is more than a one person show , or never, whichever comes first.
Usually people who have good ideas do not have much money, and many are intimidated by this or that law or regulation which the rich and well connected use to prevent more competition .
If one gets to that point the regulations are starting to have teeth, then that is a sign of success. And most probably profits, which can be used to fix up the service to comply. Or shut down and do the next idea

Yes, I know this is not the topic, or how you meant it, but it profoundly affected me in my own way.
Like absolutely blows my mind. It reminds me that any solo projects I do are probably doomed to fail later due to them not being useful at all, or unknown. Or if they are used, then I will get overwhelmed probably, and quit. The only things that seem safe is a teamwork collaboration… and I suck at that.
Right, I am off to learn a new trade, carpentry… perhaps
You’re right, it has shifted. I looked at the polls week overall it’s split into thirds. 1/3 for, about the same against and the balance not sure or don’t know
However I think a majority of older adults still support the crimes, as well as more conservative voters. But that is ordinary people. Government and defense firms are pretty dirty right now.
The genocide has such wide support in the USA community and defense companies ( irregardless of the louder minority of people protesting it)
That if there were justice, then many other people and organizations would have similar treatment and be kicked
We can’t get away from politics, or limits, but if I will point out the hypocrisy

Lots of variables, some with make the school look good, and/or the kid.
The student might be an angel who used a small bit of gpt, after saving puppies all night ; or a hellion someone finally had enough of, after repeated issues.
The parents may be bad, absolute stereotypes. Or perhaps there is a deeper story here about why they are willing to publicly humiliate themselves ; which most lawyers and/or common sense would have told them ahead of time.
Nobody here knows that much

So… I’m in Texas , been here a long time.
most ballot counts in the primaries and general are counted by secret software and hardware run by ultra conservative families the last 20 plus years. Recounts are not allowed and exit polls not used anymore because of unpredictability.
Nobody cares, no political party wants to change : not a topic in forums anywhere, even in conspiracy minded chat rooms, and it’s been this way forever ( since before 2000).
There is a ton of crazy that is ignored .
I’ve seen how the system works, I’ve been at the county chair level. Nobody will criticize it . There is a quiet culture of people knowing it’s invalid but decide to leave it be.

When my own feed, free of the algorithm, did not have content of interest. Because I or others took turns shouting into the void. Then I would go on the explore /front page where there was definitely an algorithm of influencers, many who had follower counts of thousands, talking about the same stuff. Many seemed to be upper middle class Americans .
I soon hated them, but many were broadcast to other instances’ front page too. Between them and lack of interaction from people I wanted to hear from, I left

Improving health coverage is theoretically possible, and later on they may get better, but the only things that will improve are a few blue states and even then it’s just small changes.
So dreams of large non violent change are as futile as the murderous rage. Best one can do is make more money or move to a better area or immigrate.
