Chris@feddit.ukto retrocomputing@lemmy.sdf.org•"Amiga Is On Our Radar Too" - The Resurrected Commodore Has Plans For The 16-Bit ClassicEnglish41·11 days agoYeah, it’s cheaper than fabricating new chip sets, and more accurate than emulation. You can also reprogram them if bugs are found, or you want it to pretend to be a completely different machine. They are ace!

There’s no “slave” convention in git so I’m not sure how it can be considered an issue (I get that drives being master and slave is a bit icky). But then, what is it a master of?
As others have said, “trunk” would have been a more sensible replacement.
Chris@feddit.ukto Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL the pound was named because 240 Sterlings (pennies) weighed a pound.English6·2 months agoI vaguely recall the decimal ha’penny. I am old.
Chris@feddit.ukto Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL the pound was named because 240 Sterlings (pennies) weighed a pound.English12·2 months agoNo, because the £ didn’t change, it was just divided up differently.
A pre-decimal £ is the same as a decimal £.
You could technically still pay in Shillings until they redesigned the 5p.

Chris@feddit.ukto Linux@lemmy.ml•Using Microsoft's New CLI Text Editor on UbuntuEnglish2·2 months agoI’ve just given this a quick try in Windows (sorry, didn’t want to infect Linux with MS stuff) and… it’s pretty good.
I might install it in Linux although I’ll probably still use nano.

Chris@feddit.ukto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why do websites now prefer IP-based geolocation rather than the `Accept-Language` HTTP header?English6·2 months agoI’m in England and my language is set to English, yet for some reason when I was browsing AliExpress a few weeks ago it was stuck in German and I couldn’t see how to change it. Go to the homepage - German. Click on a result from a search engine - German.
I don’t know where it got that from, it wasn’t the IP either as from a computer on the same address it was fine.

I’ve not been to Bucharest airport so I don’t know how big it is or how it is laid out. However, usually you will go to check-in and baggage drop for Lufthansa - they will have an area which is labelled up, you might need to walk around a bit but the check-in areas should all be next to each other - and they will give you a boarding pass. You then need to follow the signs to the gates. That will take you through security and usually to an area with duty-free shopping. You’ll see some boards there which will tell you which gate you need (look for your destination and the flight time or number). Sometimes they don’t announce it until the last minute. You’ll then need to follow the signs to that gate, it can be a bit of a trek if it’s a big airport (allow plenty of time to get there - I’ve had it where I’ve walked a fair way, past lots of other gates, then ended up having to get a monorail, followed by a bit more walking). When you are at the gate, wait until they call you for boarding. If it’s a big plane you’ll walk down a tunnel directly onto it, otherwise you’ll be sent outside and have to climb up the steps.
Airports can be a bit daunting but they tend to be very well signposted and lots of staff around to ask if you get lost.
Enjoy your trip!
(Also don’t get used to business class - he’s been generous there, you’re very lucky)
I used to use Should I Answer. It works well but I’m not sure whether you can trust it privacy-wise.
That cat’s living like a king there - nice room, comfy bed. I see why it left you.
