Picking the wrong option can be the way to go, sometimes. I used to pronounce it gif, but I switched over to gif instead, and now it’s just how it be

lemmyknow@lemmy.todayto Privacy@lemmy.ml•protonmail blocks account creation through tor133·7 days agoNot saying it’s some sort of conspiracy theory, but it do be kinda sus. People are just quick to hate Proton over anything. It’s like bias confirmation. They seem to be justifying their hatred, or looking for reasons to do so. I mean, “leaving Switzerland”? Really?! I thought that was because Switzerland was considering a privacy-unfriendly law. That’s bad, now?

But only if they gimme back the songs and albums I’ve purchased for 0 monies back in the day. Had them as files on my pc, but lost them in poor last minute backups prior to reinstall. Had some big names, full albums, for free, in my collection
lemmyknow@lemmy.todayto Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Unneccessary long context menus on YouTube MusicEnglish4·10 days agoWell, I’ve studied human-machine interaction and indeed too many options can affect a user’s interaction with the program. Don’t seem to recall the exact numbers, but there is a range to the optimal number of options in a menu. 5 to 7 options, maybe? Too many options, iirc, increase the time they take to process the options, even in menus they might be familiar with.
Not ideal: one huge menu with all options inside.
Also not ideal: too many small submenus.
Find a balance. Not all vertical, but also not all horizontal, nested menus
If I find the material, I’ll update the comment.
Edit: Hick’s Law
Edit 2: 8 is the limit for pie menus. Otherwise, options get too small.
Width is preferred over depth in cascading menus. I think it’s about 15 to 20 options per menu

lemmyknow@lemmy.todayto Fuck AI@lemmy.world•What 'AI' Can Do (Art by TheImmortalThinkTank)4·11 days agoDamn, why AI taking the fun, creative stuff, instead of the boring stuff? People like painting, making music, writing. They’ve been doing it forever. Now, other tasks are just that, things people do because they must. I mean, does anyone like ironing and folding laundry? If you do, hit me up: +011 899 988 199.
We’ve created machines to wash our clothes, ffs.

¿Porque no lo wine? Sure, it may have some drawbacks, but FL Studio works for me. Not sure on Ableton, though. I do wonder is LMMS is any good. I’m not a proper producer by any means, I just play around sometimes. And having so many samples, effects, plugins, etc. readily available in FL is nice. If I open the damn thing and it empty… at least some drums and a piano, maybe other instruments.
lemmyknow@lemmy.todayto Privacy@lemmy.ml•I wish there was a "Right to have your account deleted"51·18 days agoI have an old account I am locked out of due to 2FA I don’t have access to. I really want to get rid of that account, due to its content, which is publicly available for anyone to see. But alas, 'tis not possible. MFers running the forum won’t answer my emails, whether I request sensibly and professionally for help, or threaten them with GDPR. Or act like I want my account back for use. GDPR people also haven’t been very helpful (I’ve gone as far as providing evidence of contact. Have once heard “They 'Murican. Not EU. \shrugs”). Having cleaned out old, unused accounts, finding said account is easy due to a lack of other stuff to fill up search results, and having used a common username of mine for it was also dumb of me. I dream of the day said account is gone, for my peace of mind. But alas, at least half a decade trying. And it got me nowhere
lemmyknow@lemmy.todayto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How do you reconcile staying sane while keeping yourself up-to-date with the news?3·19 days agoMy news comes mainly from Lemmy, Wikipedia, sometimes Wikinews, maybe other people, and short daily podcasts. The fun radio podcasts are currently on break (though they’re less ‘news’, more current topics made funny), but I sometimes also listen to a short daily news podcast.
Lemmy is by far the worst source, because 'Murican-centrism. So much US spam. If I could easily filter out the US off Lemmy, I’d do it in a jiffy. I’d even be willing to cut off English entirely. Or leave Lemmy, touch grass. The latter seems to be the most likely option, from what I know of Lemmy.
With Wikipedia, and Wikinews, I append a relevant language code to the url, like xx.wikipedia.org, and get stuff in my language, less 'Murican. I sometimes do that in other languages I know (including English).
Podcasts are relevant by location and/or language, depending on the podcast (they sometimes bring up US stuff, but that’s far less annoying than Lemmy’s spam, and sometimes actually relevant (for the news one, at least))
