  • I made a Handbrake profile with the settings i wanted, and used the “bulk add” function to add entire shows to the queue.

The media lives on the network, my desktop does the heavy lifting, and saves the resulting video to the hard drive. Then I copy everything back to the network.

It’s not terribly efficient, but I couldn’t get tdarr to work, so this works for me. Going forward, i just have to make sure my sonarr settings are on point

  • I graduated high school in 03, a few months/years into the “no child left behind” bullshit. The last week of school, meathead asks, out loud, “why do people read”.

Almost ten years later and that dude has never had a job longer than three months. This. This is why people read…

Edit: i had a friend in highschool who passed away a few years ago, so I only know his employment status from highschool, up to the funeral. Deleted Facebook soon after

  • McDonald’s tried replacing order-takers (don’t know what they call them) with AI, and it couldn’t even do that…

Plus, planes already have dozens of safety systems that warn real pilots of dangers, they just don’t have enough control to take over flying the plane, which is good. If the lane keeping system on my car is any indication, computers are only as good as the environment sensors attached. When my car thinks I’m doing something wrong, like driving on a street with no curbs and shitily painted yellow lines, the steering wheel vibrates like Doug. Doug is my vibrator…

  • Dang, I just realized I didn’t explain the setup well enough:

An old laptop runs the Jellyfin server, but the Pi runs the reverse proxy. For some reason, trying to use the reverse proxied address causes problems, but connecting directly to the laptop via IP address and port runs fine.

I tried a Jellyfin server with a pi 2 or 3 and it couldn’t serve more than one client at a time. So i imagine a zero wouldn’t even be able to load the app, much less serve anything :/

My main reason for running my DNS/ad block/nginx through the zero, sometimes the laptop goes down, freezes, or fails to clear the transcodes folder, so having that stuff separate keeps at least part of the network running.

  • If I trusted the battery tech more, I would use an old phone. But I’ve had one of those white plastic Mac books hooked up to power so long, the battery swelled out of its enclosure :/

Maybe there’s a way to disconnect the battery, or an app that switches off charging, so it drains enough to keep that from happening

  • For me, it was the lack of support for certain Wi-Fi cards. I had to pull an older Wi-Fi card out of an old Chromebook, because no flavor of Linux supported the card that came with the (Windows 11) laptop. And guess who has two thumbs and no Ethernet port…

Finally got it working, but at one point i was almost willing to have a USB tether to my phone, just so i wouldn’t have to fight with windows anymore.

Edit: Just realized it said desktop, but my desktop also has Wi-Fi, i just haven’t had the courage to switch fully from my Spectre Win 10 install…
