So as a left-hander you get a small bonus to your brain from being forced to use your right hand a lot and a right-hand design world. When you buy especially left-handed made things, you actually Rob yourself of that advantage of gaining that ambidexterity. So I don’t have a good hand and a bad hand. I have a fine dexterity hand in my left and a raw power hand in my right since that’s traditionally what I’ve opened doors and other things with my whole life.
Whether or not I play a sport, a sport with a certain hand varies by the activity
So in baseball I throw and catch left-handed In ping pong and badminton and other racket sports, I can play either hand but generally I favor my right When boxing or doing MMA I typically take a right-handed stance because I want my precision parrying hand out front and I want my raw power hand in back For that reason I also shoot pool right-handed (left hand in front) In volleyball, I hit left-handed
So yeah, generally I discourage my fellow Lefty brothers from doing a bunch of things to specifically accommodate themselves and instead embrace dual use that the righties will never have.
Buy a left and a right handed scissor, then you can play crabs…
This is what it felt like to finally get an ADHD diagnosis in my 30s after raw dogging life on hard mode, and assuming I just sucked at life compared to everyone else
“Is this what things have been like for you this whole time?”
Me going on Indomethicin after getting my hemicrania diagnosis.
I recently hit my 30’s, probably have ADHD, reading this…
…I swear, if I don’t kill someone…
If you want i can give you a list-…
Here you go: https://www.forbes.com/real-time-billionaires/
I will write it down, just in-case.
Same for me with anxiety. All those years I avoided doing stuff, if only I realised what I felt wasn’t normal.
I got diagnosed with severe complex sleep apnea (central and obstructive). I spent a few weeks with a CPAP but not dialed into the correct pressure but after my first night of sleeping with a CPAP in the lab to get the pressure correct I woke up and went to work.
I was confused because I felt odd, it took me 10-15 minutes standing on a forklift trying to figure out what the fuck was happening. I finally realized that I was experiencing what being awake was for the first time in my life at 32. I reintroduced myself to coworkers I had worked with for a few years because I had been in a haze for most of my life.
Was also in my 30s when I got diagnosed. Identical experience, I was shocked I’ve gone this long as a zombie.
Gods this was basically what trying gender neutral pronouns was like. Figured I would give them a try, how much difference can they make?
Wow, why does every friendship suddenly feel closer and more real? Huh, I actually can spend time with people and not feel drained? Why is my long-term skin and inflammation problems suddenly and inexplicably clear up?
Oh wait… These health problems can be caused by stress! What else can be caused by stress (reads list)
Oh shit. Yeah that also stopped being a problem… And this one… Wait, I don’t have joint problems as much either…
oh shiiiiiiiit
wait, we don’t want to tell people to refer to us by plural pronouns, we’re weird enough.
wait, we don’t want to tell people to refer to us by plural pronouns, we’re weird enough.
Get that you’re just being silly and irreverent and all and I see you… But not exactly great to imply that plural pronouns are a problem that makes you implicitly odd to other people? Just… Sayin.
But not exactly great to imply that plural pronouns are a problem that makes you implicitly odd to other people? Just… Sayin.
why shouldn’t we imply that we would get the exact response that we get for hinting at our identity were we to legitimately assume it instead of dance around it and let people assume we’re joking?
Because the people who respond to us that way are being assholes. Like it doesn’t matter who it comes from. Cis folk are gunna look at that and think it’s fine thing to say and keep doing it.
We’re allowed to dream of a better world dude.
Credit where credit is due, I don’t know how you were able to even parse that comment…
You can always get weirder. The universe needs it.
I am almost 70 and my GP says I have undiagnosed ADHD and autism. Now I cannot afford to pay for the actual testing to prove it and document it. Ironic, back when it would have been free or cheap I was the “weird kid” and later “uncle nutsy” and there were no diagnoses.
Things that also give you this sort of motivation:
- Labelling machines;
- New drill;
- Air fryers;
- Pressure washers;;
- Chainsaws
Bidet
heated bidet. i ain’t freezin’ my pucker in the middle of the night in the winter

I have an old Husqvarna 345 and I’m very happy with it. I believe the 300 series is like a semi-professional lineup. More than good enough for home use. Decent gift for someone who thinks they could use a chainsaw, but isn’t a professional lumberjack that knows exactly what type of saw they need.
Of course the 345 is no longer being sold, but basically get 'em something in the 40-50 cm3 range roughly, to get started. Husqvarna and Stihl both make great saws.
Yes, I love chainsaws.
I labeled everything when I first got my label maker.
I still love any opportunity to use it.
Have you even used a label maker if you haven’t printed a label for the label maker?
Do you have an old school embossing label maker or a lame modern label printer?
TIL of the existence of embossing label makers. That’s neat! I may have to get one lol
Those are the original. They made DIY projects look totally professional! Not like you made it yourself, at all.
Booo don’t yuck their yum
Is there anything people won’t get offended by?
Apparently you’re offended by practical and cheap label makers
yes being nostalgic means I’m offended 😂
Also embossing label makers are cheap as hell. It’s tech from the 50s.
I don’t need a label marker… but it would be so fun to have.
They’re pretty cheap too, just don’t get a Dymo, with their proprietary locked down DRM ass label tape.
Just label every drawer, jar and box you own. Helps you stick to an organizing system and makes it easier for guests too.
i’m on a “make your own spice mix” kick. that label maker is saving my mouth
Don’t forget to label the label machine, just in case.
Don’t look now but they can be had cheap
I’m trying to do a no-buy January, but I just bought a secondhand book… sigh.
3d printer
Also any kind of kitchen tool (for me anyway). I was gifted a blender once and started making smoothies within the hour lol.
things my bidoof has said since i gave him hm01 for christmas
I didn’t realize scissors were ‘handed’. My right-handed privilege is showing.
Yes, and when write with a pen or pencil on paper it’s easier to smear your work as the writing hand is trailing, not leading.
Coffee mugs with logos have in mind which hand you hold them with.
Insulated bottles with handles and sip lids assume righthandedness.
One improvement has been smart watches since the screen can flip over if you switch wrists.
Coffee mugs that don’t have the logo opposite of the handle are just stupid.
Yes, and when write with a pen or pencil on paper it’s easier to smear your work as the writing hand is trailing, not leading.
Right-handed people writing right-to-left languages (there are a lot of them) can sympathize, I guess
When I got my smart watch the first thing I wanted to do was add a watch face like the old Goofy lefty watches that went anti-clockwise. Thus far I have not found one.
Be the change you want to see, make one
I wish I knew how.
I’m a lefty who made it almost half a century on this earth without realizing I could just go out and buy left handed scissors, so don’t feel too bad.
i have a few pair of “good” scissors. the duck scissors. the curved creepy looking scissors. those ones are mine. the righties can use the other ones. those two pair are mine, since i can actually cut with them.
I don’t want to try and take away your privilege but You can buy scissors that are “hand neutral.”
No you cannot, though some manufacturers like to say so.
The grips are neutral, but the blades are righty.
Pick up some scissors and open them like you’re cutting something. You’ll see the top blade on the right and the bottom on the left. Because you’re holding them in your right hand the bottom/left blade is closer to you. This gives you a clear view of the cutting line of whatever you’re cutting. Even if you flip them it’s still true.
For a lefty this line is blocked by the top blade.
Lefty scissors have the blades reversed. Try a pair sometime. It’s doable but not pleasant.
Ohhhhh, it’s about the blades! Now I finally get it. Thanks!
You’re definitely correct. I just like that they don’t make my hand feel bad.
"Hand neutral " scissors are still right handed scissors that do not have molded finger holes for righties. They still are built backwards for a lefty. All in all they work in a pinch, but generally are garbage.
I have a 100% symmetric kitchen scissors that gets used for just about everything. How is it backwards / garbage?
Hold your scissors like you’re cutting something. The top blade should be on the right side and the bottom edge that whatever you’re cutting rests on will be on the left facing you. This is true even if flipped.
It would be reversed on left handed scissors. This is the important difference. It’s more common nowadays for the grips to be ambidextrous, but the blade is still an issue. Of course lefties CAN cut things with righty scissors. But try out a lefty pair sometime. You’ll find the blade blocks your view of what you’re doing. You can’t easily see the line that you’re cutting.
Interesting, hadn’t thought of anything but the grip affecting ambidextricity. I guess part of it is I don’t do precise cutting that requires me to pay attention to the blade.
Even when you do not need to see exactly what you are cutting, physics of the blade orientation, and your hand movements, pull the blades apart when you use right-handed scissors in your left hand.

As you can see, the blades on my left-handed scissors are mirrored to yours, so when I cut my hand movements push the blades together.
My partner is a lefty, and sometimes manufacturers lie about them being hand neutral
It’s not possible. The really important part is which blade is on which side. The grips can work for both hands but the blades are righty.
We should all work towards ending the horrors of handedness and the implied moral violence inherent in the system.
The handedness binary is a worn-out social construct
(/s, for anyone who needs it said)
Yeah I got a pair of these. Even as a righty, it’s nice to not have to figure out which orientation is correct before you pick it up.
Apparently bread knives are also handed.
A couple weeks ago, after more than three decades on this earth, I discovered for the first time that if I slice the butter from the other end of the stick, I can get a nice clean, straight, vertical cut. Because the butter knife is only beveled on one side.
All my life, I’ve been slicing butter from the wrong end, and the knife has slipped off a third of the way down every time…
butter late than never
🥁
good for you on using the same butter knife for so long
Well I haven’t tested this new discovery on many knives, but I’m certain I’ve had the same problem with many different ones over the years. At the very least, they’re all beveled on at least one side…
A lot of kitchen knives, and other utensils are too.
We’ve come a long way from the days of teachers hitting left-handed kids with rulers when they tried to write with the dominant hand.
my wife and i are in our 40s. she went to a school where they did that. i did not. she would be left handed. i am left handed. funny that.
Indeed. Rulers are retractable now.
Teacher can fwip that fucker out and dekopin you right between the eyes without even getting up
For me it was the opposite. Elementary school had old and dull left hand scissors. I never understood how the manufacturers could screw them up so badly, lol.
Huh, on the rare occasion that left handed scissors were actually available, they were always way better because they didn’t get used
Depends on if the last kid went mad with cutting power
Left handed dcissors used by a right handed person suck though
Now you understand our plight
✌️👉👍
I’ve never experienced true cutting, maybe one day.
There is still much good to be said for ripping.
And tearing!
Cutting is just something I learned to do right handed for that exact reason.
Growing up I always had the green left handed ones for elementary, not even sure I’ve noticed in 30+ years besides when the Xmas wrapping paper was on awkward side that I’m now just used to using right handed ones. Some issues with wrapping this recent season …
I always played some sports different handed though was never good at either side so didn’t seem to make much of a difference but say golf clubs feel way better right handed, baseball I can never remember which one I want to throw with.
You can just get non-ergonomic scissors. Then nobody’s happy!
That might help for the grip, but the blades would still be right handed
I think that was their intention. The lefty is unhappy as the scissors are still almost unusable and the right handed guy has scissors that work but are uncomfortable.
Spoken like a true rightey. But no, they still won’t work for left-handers.
Shit really? Why not?
The blades are setup differently for right handed vs left handed scissors. On a right handed blade setup cutting slightly pulls the blades together thus increasing the effectiveness where as when a lefty uses them the blades will be pushed apart slightly. On top of that the blade will obscure what you are cutting if you are using the wrong handedness scissor.
Left handed rulers are also a thing, and surprisingly helpful even if you’re right handed. The scale runs from the right to the left, so if you hold it with your left hand the zero is on the stick out to the right.
A lefty that doesn’t know how to clench the blades is no lefty I want to associate with.
Left handed scissors sounds like one of those fake tools, like a long weight or blinker fluid.
right hander, get him!
They’re life changing for us lefties. Blades are meant to be squeezed together with the force from your thumb but right handed blades are backwards for lefties, meaning will pull the blades apart when we squeeze. Not saying you don’t know this but someone might learn it!
